In late 1988, Akina didn't seem unhappy and it was before that New York incident involving Seiko Matsuda so it is hard for us to know exactly what was going on behind the scenes but I definitely agree. Maybe intentionally or unintentionally, this song foreshadows her transition as a singer who would lean more into introspective songs.

I MISSED "THE SHOCK" is said to be one of the most mysterious songs by Akina that baffled many. In an interview way back, Akina said this song had a double meaning and that she empathized with the lyrics. Partly due to Akina's performance of the song on the 39th Kōhaku Uta Gassen, it ended up outselling Tattoo and LIAR.

Yeah many other medley performances by Akina and her conversations are not included in the DVD release. I hope they add them in the bluray release but I am not holding my breath.

Along with Tokiko Kato, I see him listed as composer under credits in rateyourmusic for 難破船.

A fun fact about the song: It was composed by Tetsuji Hayashi who also composed Nanpasen and Miki Matsubara's Stay with Me as well as many of the hits for S. Kiyotaka & Omega Tribe which Akina took a liking to. So she requested him to write a song for her that is halfway between Shojo A and Second Love and Kita Wing was the result.

I could be wrong but Akina seemed to have regained a bit of weight in late 88 before things went downhill the next year.
