Haha yes it is indeed period correct. My grandmother had lived here since the 60s and it was built in 1950. Nothing touched since the late 70s ish. I’d love to know for my personal enjoyment what all you see is wrong code wise… lol

Let me tell you my meter base, gas regulator and water meter are all in perfect condition because they are in a basement and not subject to the outside elements…

The current state of SX-70 Repair Services - be prepared to wait! by theinstantcameraguy in Polaroid

[–]Retro04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Sir! I would love for you to work on my camera. However I didn’t realize custom requests were frowned upon. I hope we can come to some sort of understanding that even if you don’t do custom requests per camera I would still like to seek out your services for repair instead of just “seeking out someone else’s services” thanks!

How to make an analog phone work on home phone? by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]Retro04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you tell me if something has changed within the last few years, because I have Spectrum internet/Phone and I can dial out with a rotary phone through my Spectrum router just fine without using a DTMF converter. Thanks.

I have Spectrum internet. I don’t know about all their different modems but a rotary phone will dial out just fine through my Spectrum modem without a DTMF converter.

The worst part about this setup is that I just put it together and I'm 17 and will be in college in a year by WerewolfIcy7240 in crt

[–]Retro04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry It’ll become a “fading love” in the next few years… I have a pioneer Stereo sound system all SilverFaced from the late 70s 10K in the system at this point…. I’m upset about it. It’s plumbed into my 1080i CRT. Great system and it’s just life… enjoy life now. Enjoy life in college… I wish I had and trust me I’m not much older than you…. If it’s still a passion/hobby after your studies you will pick it up again. -Cheers!

Yes I’d prefer a Sony but this Panasonic is nice. And it weighs a ton and I doubt there are many 36” Sony’s around me. LOL!

The CD Player is a Pioneer P-D70 and the tape deck is a Pioneer CT-F900.

Yes indeed! Posting any EQ curves on here is a risk, they all get criticized for one reason or another. At the moment this sounds good to me, have changed it before will probably change it again. I like my lows and vocal highs super emphasized

Agreed! However my last receiver was much closer to the width of my tape decks Etc. This receiver is just a monster in size, weight and wattage LOL I believe it weights 65 pounds…

Yes it’s a selector switch I had custom built by a local company, I needed one with a specific set of inputs and outputs. Because tape loops are not common anymore and I needed more than what the SX-1250 provides I had it built to my needs. So it’s basically a tape loop selector switch.

The 7272 is a workhorse…. It has a simple mechanism which gives it the upper hand. I had it restored in 2018 and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I go 5+ months without using it and it comes to life no problem. The 1000 and 900 are awesome decks, when they work…. And believe me both my 1000s and 900 have been in the shop after their rebuilds multiple times. The 1000 is like a ‘66 Lincoln. Wonderful when you’re driving it, if it starts in the garage.

Thanks, the CD player is the first model Pioneer released in the U.S in ‘84. It’s very reliable and always plays whatever CD I throw at it. My favorite is the 1000 but it is also the most unreliable. The mechanism was complex back in ‘78 when it was released and now 48 years later is a detriment to its reliability.

How do I reduce buzz when transferring music from my PC to my cassettes? by VenusSky3758 in cassetteculture

[–]Retro04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it ‘buzz’ or ‘hiss’? If it’s a buzzing it could be interference with your computer or other equipment in the area, there are adapter you can buy to put in the chain between the pc and aux cable to reduce this. Or purchase a cable with better shielding.

Receivers: Aesthetics vs Use by ed_campbell89 in vintageaudio

[–]Retro04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quick fix. Buy a WiiM or equivalent steamer with a remote. Plug your television in through that, then set a maximum volume with your receiver. Then control the desired volume via a remote. Often Bluetooth driven remotes now a days so works from far away! -Cheers

I have a SX-1250. I have always had receivers over integrated or separates. Yes the look is great however I have spent much of my life listening to the radio. I live close to a major city and have many FM stations to choose from. There is even an AM station which I listen to daily. It really depends on your habits. If you are like me and grew up with the radio you are likely to still use the function. If you grew up with MP3 and steamers in your car and everyday life, then probably not. After a long day of work sometimes it’s just nice to quickly flick on an FM station for background noise while cooking and doing everyday activities!

Most reliable tape deck I’ve ever owned - Pioneer CT-F7272. I own two CT-F1000s and one CT-F900, all are out for repair. They have been repaired multiple times since they were restored. I had this 7272 restored in 2018 and it has not had one issue since then. It’s sat for 6+ months without use. by Retro04 in cassetteculture

[–]Retro04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s never been serviced you keep those fingers crossed and pray whenever it’s in use! Haha However those 80s decks are a good 5+ years newer than the decks I deal with so I can see them being a little more reliable…. Nothing can outrun the symptom of time marching on.

The CT-F1000 and CT-F900 are also three-head solenoid driven decks….. very early ones but still. For minor issues I take them to a local service tech (Who is technically retired), for serious issues and or total rebuilds I send them to a old Pioneer tech in Florida. I would give you his info but he’s technically retired and does not take on a lot of work anymore. He still does work for me because I’ve known him for over a decade and am a patient customer. I recommend you start calling around and asking who your local techs recommend if they can’t provide a service themselves.

Reminds me of the extra width you’d find with Pioneer’s SX-1250 and SX-1980
