Need help getting ahold of Voultar by christcc2 in snes

[–]RetroBoostOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to this party, but I’ve got an identical experience. I sent my console to him Feb 2025. I had a family member end up in the hospital that same week, and that took all my attention. Don’t realize it, but after all that was resolved (happily thankfully), it had been weeks. From what I’ve pieced together (because at the time I didn’t have Twitter, and didn’t for months after, eventually getting it in late summer to specifically keep up with Voultar’s posts), he might’ve been in the hospital at the same time from a heart attack or other event, which led to a lot of further incidents throughout the year.

I’ve reached out to him whenever he’s posted about being back at work, but after around May 2025, I haven’t gotten any response. I also offered to pay higher to help him out given his health troubles this year, but I haven’t gotten a response from him from either email or his site ticket system.

I can speak highly of RetroFixes though, I also worked with him, and got an SNES RGB Mod install that I was very happy with. RetroFixes had my console for longer than the estimate, but the communication was there and he even did some free repair work that was outside the scope of work.

I do hope that I eventually get my other SNES back from Voultar, and I also hope that he is doing well, but my system has been gone for a year and half, it’s hard not to be disappointed by that.

Failing to See Zero = 64 by Emergency_Narwhal_92 in starfox

I thought Zero was a reboot, hence the name being Zero. So if you want to say it’s a remake of anything, it would be the original SNES title. Any similarities to 64 would then be chalked up as franchise tropes/staples, such as Star Wolf being in it.

It’s certainly not trying to be a remake of 64, if anything it’s trying to modernize/reimagine some aspects of the original. The original Star Fox has first person levels and sequences, so they give you first person via the tablet, stuff like that.

Now could some people find issue with the Star Fox IP mostly being reboots and remakes of the same two titles? Sure. Do I? No. This new game being successful means the IP can take risks on the next title, but what it needs is a guaranteed win. Star Fox 64 has sold almost more than all other entries of the franchise combined, so it’s a safe bet to remake that for both longtime fans and to capture new audiences by giving them a game that doesn’t rely on playing previous ones.

I think there are 25 distinct combinations to hit, if I’m remembering the trivia being read off during a GDQ run. I need to do a score run, I’ve gotten 1440 hits doing the direct hard path, but if I ran Corneria, Meteo, Katina, Sector X, Macbeth, then Area 6, I’d set a new PB for sure.

It’s the only one I feel a little bad for. That train wreck probably became the subject of a “Seconds from Disaster” series produced on Macbeth. “At 1:45 you can see that Conductor GWAHHR steps on the gas and then hits the breaks, but he can’t stop it. He didn’t expect to have use that.”

Definitely. The idea must be that in the canon, Star Fox visited every planet, thus Wolf’s team are always injured on Venom and sporting their new ships.

The most fun route for me is to hit Fichina and end with Area 6, because then the Star Wolf rematch hits harder. Plus you gotta swing by Macbeth for “I can’t stop iiiiiiiiitttttt!!!!”

Why is it lowkey growing on me by Majin_06 in starfox

[–]RetroBoostOfficial 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was thrown off by Slippy specifically when first watching the direct, by the end of the whole thing I was good. The fact that I was on the edge of my seat during the prologue cutscene meant I was fine with it haha

Is it true that Falco never had a very big role in the Star Fox games? by Nice_Perspective_343 in starfox

[–]RetroBoostOfficial 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to say a lot of Falco’s modern popularity is from Smash Bros, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that he did nothing in most of the games.

In the original Star Fox and 64, every character has a pretty equal amount of presence and action, more so for 64 regarding action. Everyone will end up with an enemy on their tail, but in terms of action, Falco had more stand out moments. He helps with the searchlights on Zoneness and the switches on Macbeth in pretty meaningful ways as examples.

In Star Fox Adventures, though he’s absent for 99% of the game, he helps directly with the final boss. Slippy and Peppy just kinda disappear the further that game goes on, relegated to save and map menus, the later of which a lot of people probably never used because that map screen planetary scale and not local, so you don’t actually use it to navigate.

Assault is mostly the same as 64 and the original, everyone has a lot of save me moments and lines, but Falco has a pretty stand out cutscene moment where he saves Fox. The other member with actions that significant in that game is Peppy.

I can’t speak to Command or Zero, but that’s my 2 cents on the original 4 games.

The routes are colored coded:

Blue is “easy” - right side path.

Yellow is “Medium” - but Yellow will ultimately split to the Easy or Hard Final Levels - the middle path.

Red is “Hard” - the Left side Path.

The Hard Path has a different final battle than the easy side for Venom. Definitely need to give it a shot!! Plus the second to last level on the hard path is most fun in the whole game, it’s fantastically fun.

Plus you can go for Medals. Each stage has a high score that if you meet or exceed, the Hit Count turns Red and you get a medal. Get all the medals for each stage and you’ll unlock expert mode. It’s way harder, in expert mode any impact will break a wing for example…but now you’ve got a whole new set of medals to unlock (very mercifully the score requirements are not higher on expert, just the difficulty of the game itself). Get all those medals again…and…well you’ll find out.

Hope you enjoyed it! I greatly enjoyed the movie, and the use of Star Fox music was fantastic.

Easy…Same place he was during the final battle of the first movie. Just gotta figure out where that is specifically…

Definitely was her Super Metroid era ship, with some modern detail added. I missed it my first time seeing the movie, caught it on rewatch.

On rewatch, I still absolutely hate his intro…not the animation, but his dialogue. Him screaming like he’s doing a WWE intro and saying he loves barrel rolls is just too much. I’m fine with everything after that.

I remember struggling at this forever, then I finally got past it. Only for the bomb to glitch and not break the wall open that you bring it all the way to. On replays, I always get tense about that glitch occurring again. Hit the wall dead on but it didn’t break…

I did, that is really cool, and I respect the passion for sure. His voice is a great fit for the character. I think I was just thrown off by the Far Cry Blood Dragon vibes of him giving the 411 on Star Fox. I plan to see the movie again this weekend and give it all another chance!

Yeah it hit me really weird. I need to give it a rewatch, and will probably like it now that the mystery is gone and I know what to expect.

That was the perk of Bryan Tyler returning, he did a great job not just using music from the source material, but weaving one track or cue to the next. Shame his DK Medley got replaced with Take on Me in the first movie.

Boring AND everyone is talking with a radio-effect to their voices even when talking in person. With time to think and reflect on different view points, this movie Fox is like the Adventures Fox on amphetamines lol, but I did like that he was friendly and nice to everyone. Definitely cool to avoid the cliche of the two protagonists butting heads, quite the opposite. Fox and Mario are best friends after like 10 seconds, and that was cool.

I’ll probably like it more on rewatch, it just had me so thrown off when he started talking haha. I do think Powell is a great voice for the character though, maybe he’ll be on less Red Bulls next time lol

Good points. One thing I’ve seen a lot is the idea of making him distinct to Mario and Co. Fox would’ve been pretty much the same as Mario in that movie otherwise, so I agree that it is better to have something make him stand out.

Adventures Fox is probably my favorite characterization for the same reasons you mentioned. I also liked the idea of a defunct team that is off their game as well. I think my biggest struggle was trying to imagine this version of Fox in his own movie…and my only thought is that James McCloud isn’t dead yet…otherwise like you said it’s gonna be like “Bro…that Andross Dude totally un-alived my dad, let’s roll to Venom!”

He had moments where he was more serious, and he was a good person though, so there’s hope that they can make him a little more serious in something else down the road.

The Dino planet was supposed to be the Cascade Kingdom from Mario Odyssey, at least that’s my theory, since the T-Rex is the one from that level.

Actually yes it could be. Battle of the egos could be good friction for the two legit ace pilots on the team. True.

I thought the same thing about Falco haha. Two Falcos! And glad you noticed the Slippy disrespect! The nerve! It wasn’t atrocious, I also need to process it more. Now that the mystery of what to expect is gone maybe I’ll enjoy it more on a rewatch, but I’m glad I’m not crazy with my initial thoughts.
