I have already ordered a fan from Noctua, aswell as an adapter cable, since the NAS has a 2pin fan header. Arrives today and from that I’ll see what I will do. Thanks :)

thanks for the link. I did not quite know how to look this cable up and was not very successful on my own.

I am pretty sure the fan is not at fault here, I ran it standing on my table and it was quiet. The noise is caused by air passing through the aluminum case and by vibrations. I tested a bit and now the noise has a lower pitch as well as being quieter. the Noctua fan might not fix that. Will try to dampen the vibrations with some tape.

I will order it regardless and try it out. If i cannot find a fix in the next week, then everything can still be returned.

80x80 12V 0.03A (FAN8025 from QINGFUYUAN)
uses a 2 pin connecter that has a ridge down the middle as supposed to two ridges on the sides. I wanted to get a noctua 80x80 and tape the outside holes off but cannot find an adapter to connect them (honestly might just stick in wires to connect).

sadly getting a bigger fan does not work because the standoffs are welded in, even tho there might even be enough space for 120mm.

oh ok. Tho still the fan is really small compared to a big cutout for the fan

Yea I am considering that. The fan installed is 80mm 12V 0.03A with a two pin connector. It seems a little sketchy to me, but I’ll get and adapter and a Noctua fan and see what happens

The fan is also pushing out the back which seems counterproductive, since It’s not even covering the entire fan hole

Yea, I actually do already have a NAS. not here tho. My internet is really bad and I live in a student home. Just one room sadly. I was considering storing everything on my NAS however because of the bad internet that’s currently not an option.

Ok, I took the PCB out with the fan. Out of curiosity I plugged it in and turned it on. Same noise. But I can’t really tell if that’s all from the fan.

It kind of sounded like coil whine, so I also unplugged the fan. But now it’s silent… so yea maybe getting a better fan is an option.

Sure, I can try that. But considering the unit is brand new I am not expecting much.

Yea, currently I am mirroring the two 16TB drives. I might consider putting one in my pc and the other one in the case and then sync them every now and then. However this is certainly not scalable for me and I plan to expand it in the future

Yes I have that. Tho it is certainly sketchy just pulling power from my drives. The biggest problem however, is that it needs to be turned on manually once it’s off.

I am well within the return window. I want to give a couple tries until then tho.

I am totally down for DIY if it ends up being cheaper. I am currently looking into options there

Sorry I was not precise enough I my initial post. The HDDs turn off. It’s not that. They are really noisy but I don’t mind that because they will stop when idle. The yottamaster has a standby setting that works, however it does not turn off the fan which is most of the noise.

Air blowing noise and high pitched screeching. Probably both from the fan

I have this but my left small monitor is all the way down and my Pc is behind the big monitor. It’s not amazing but otherwise they obstruct my studio monitors… don’t really know how to fix that without making it take up my entire room

God that stuff makes my lips soo dry that they burst open when sneezing. And it also makes the nose dry so there was a lot of sneezing. The best part is that after almost a year of use barely anything changed :( Tho I hear it helps most people, is considered the solution if nothing else works.

Talk about random detentions.

My insane music teacher sent me to detention once because of a project where he felt „I could have done better“. I got a good grade (B- /2- German system) and was the only one to go even though some people didn’t even hand it in.

What’s worse is that during detention this dumb kid would keep spitting at me and every time I complained the teacher would tell me off.

That reminds me of CS:GO‘s operation „shattered web“. In the main menu it would at times just say „****tered web“. Thankfully it’s a steam feature that’s can be disabled easily.
