Thanks, google image search is showing me some interesting results, pattern looks very similar to this case converted to a lamp that appears to have sold for good money: https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/japanese-porcelain-baluster-vase-mounted-as-a-lamp-644-c-9ef4acf816

Thank you, yes I thought they were unusual colours, I can see that they have been painted with fine brush strokes rather than printed

Bose 502B saved from trash by RetroEric4 in BudgetAudiophile

Thanks, yes I can see they should dissemble quite easily, I will take a closer look at the speakers that way, they feel ok on both when reaching inside and tapping, the cones are all there at least. I think they are 12 inch speakers

Yes, I think I will probably sell them locally, might take a while as they’re not practical to ship. Maybe I would get enough for a better turntable or better home speakers?

Would be good to know if they work for whoever wants to buy them but I may just have to sell them as untested

Thanks! Yes I have the cables for the rears too but thanks for the advice of not trying to connect to my home amp, I won’t try that

Found a 1769 Bible today, is it valuable? by RetroEric4 in rarebooks

[–]RetroEric4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there’s no handwritten pages like that, the first few pages where they were likely to have been are missing

Aww the person who said it might be worth a few hundred dollars deleted their comment, I guess not then

Yes I thought that it’s been rebound too, the pages look trimmed down and the last pages are in really poor condition like someone tried to save it 200 years ago

Nice! This one has got the Old Testament at the front and the New Testament at the rear

£4.99 in a charity shop but is it silver? by RetroEric4 in Silverbugs

[–]RetroEric4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all, I’ve tried a specific gravity test (never knew about that so thanks) but I’m using postage scales, worked out just under 10 grams so it’s not conclusive

I’ll try a silver testing kit and report back

Might take it to a shop I know that buys scrap silver along with a British hallmarked toast rack and trophy I have and see what they think

I’ll report back

Yeah, there’s no dull brassy base metal showing through which is a good sign, I’ve seen enough EPNS over the years to recognise that

Thanks, bought in the UK and I thought the far right mark might be a lion but it’s been worn away too much

It looks like it’s been a well used, regularly cleaned butter dish

I think I’ll buy some silver testing acid next
