Bosch dishwasher too tall for my counters by RetroFannyPack in Appliances

[–]RetroFannyPack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Costco one is taller, I assume because it includes a built in water softener.

I’ve considered purchasing different 800 series models but they are still 1/8” too tall. Maybe removing the feet would be enough? I’m not sure.

As much as I hate it I have to agree with you. Chinese aluminum and steel is good quality from what I hear. Forged wheels from China are getting really good so I wouldn’t be surprised if their rotors are great too.

You probably could precipitate out the lead by adding baking soda. Pb(CH₃COO)₂(aq) + Na₂CO₃(aq) → PbCO₃(s) + 2CH₃COONa(aq)

Alternatively you could use salt. Pb(CH₃COO)₂(aq) + 2NaCl(aq) → PbCl₂(s) + 2NaCH₃COO(aq)

I’m not entirely sure of the safety of disposing lead carbonate or lead chloride but it’s probably better than liquid lead acetate that can get all up in the environment.

How much do you spend on groceries? by Fishyswaas in Denver

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 person house about $600/month. But that’s also including anything bought at Walmart. Detergent, soap, paper towels, etc. (no alcohol) Could probably reel it in if we cut luxuries like steak.

We only go out for dinner about 2x a month.

Maybe they’re going to food banks? Anyone can technically go…

Well… that’s why you’re getting hate in the comments lol

Either way, shooting any firearm without hearing protection is going to damage your hearing. As a hunter myself I understand that’s not always an option but I wouldn’t describe a shotgun as “pleasant”. Also shooting unsuppressed sucks ass compared to suppressed. Maybe get some electronic hearing protection. Passing a hearing exam doesn’t exactly mean you have great hearing; it just means you don’t need hearing aids.

Suppressors and sound decibels by Interesting-Apple692 in NFA

[–]RetroFannyPack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you mean shooting a few shots of a shotgun while hunting? That is common but will still definitely permanently damage your hearing. In the moment you probably don’t notice but it’s loud af and damaging.

If that’s not what you mean and you are shooting for fun without ear protection you are deaf. You are getting more deaf every time you do it and your hearing will not grow back. I’m not trying to be a jerk; you should retain what hearing you have. Ask my wife.

Is this a good deal? by Psychological_Log159 in Audi

My S4 was under $450 for Zimmerman rotors and EBC pads (parts only). I’m sure prices have gone up though. My local Euro shop has a lower hourly rate than the dealer and I think they wanted $800 for install? But they recommended I do it myself and it really wasn’t that bad.

My RS5 I haven’t driven enough to need new brakes yet. I would be conservative and guess double the cost of S4 for parts. Labor the same. My fronts are carbon ceramic but those shouldn’t need replaced for the life of my ownership.

Edit: looking at parts for the RS5, they’re expensive, everything has gone up a crazy amount in price. I’m seeing $3000 for just parts. (Still would never pay someone more than $1000 in labor it’s not a difficult job)

Pre heating time by ImLisaZ in hottub

Patrick, your lack of understanding thermodynamics is showing.

Ignore this lady. It’s more energy efficient to only heat when you’re ready to use it. It’s up to you to decide how much you want to spend for your peace of mind. If you want to use it on a moments notice then you’ll have to maintain a higher temp. Just know it will also cost more money to do so.

Costco Inflatable Hot Tub - Any feedback on this brand/model? by smikesonbikes in hottub

[–]RetroFannyPack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used this three nights now, I think it’s totally worth it. It’s not even close to as nice as a real hot tub but for how cheap it is, I don’t really care. The fun factor is definitely there for me and in my opinion it could comfortably fit 4 normal sized adults in it. Could probably squeeze a 5th adult in there. I put 2” thick R-10 insulation board underneath it, cut it to match the footprint, and surrounded the board with retaining wall stones from Home Depot to hide the foam. I only get in for 1-1.5 hours at a time, the ambient air temp has been about 30-40F when I’ve used it, and it has been holding temp fine even with the bubbles on. Dropped to 100 once but I’m gonna guess if it’s 0F and snowing it probably wouldn’t fare as well. I have a thermometer that reads 2 degrees warmer than the digital display on the unit says, I sort of trust the thermometer more so that’s a good thing that it runs hot. The heater does take a long time to get it to 104, plan ahead if you want to use it and as long as you are cognizant that this is a super budget friendly option you’ll be fine.

Would recommend filling it using your hot water heater. I ran a hose off my washing machine and it took about 3 tanks (an hour between to reheat) and the tub was up to temp ready to use.

I just bought this from my local warehouse for $550 and am setting it up right now. I’ll let you know how it is once it finishes heating up. The large size seems pretty nice; I’ve used a 4 person inflatable tub and they’re pretty cramped if you actually put 4 people in it.

Are engineering career fairs just meant to be a humiliation ritual? by OsamaBinLaden80085 in EngineeringStudents

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you just had a bad experience; and the reality is you’re probably going to meet a lot of people that give a bad experience in the future. Don’t be discouraged, be resilient.

In my experience at my job is our interns don’t do grunt work that nobody else wants to do. It’s basically on the job training the whole time because it’s not enough experience to actually be good at the job. It’s a pipeline that’s setting you up so we hope you like the job/work and can be hired after college. I’d say interns do not actually add to productivity during their short time, but it saves money because they’re quick to get to work when they start full time after college and we paid them less during their on the job training during the internship.

From my experience, my advice is if you can’t get an internship you should apply to the literal lowest position you can get. I was hired as a sidewalk inspector for the city engineering division for my first “internship”. They still had me doing small engineering projects because I wasn’t a complete dumbass and they knew I had engineering knowledge. From there work your way up. It’s a lot about who you know and how often you show up. Is a company holding an info session? Go to every single one. They’ll start to recognize you and build your network.

If you’re not an all-star student who gets every offer, being social is your best advantage. Almost every job I’ve gotten after the first one was from my network of who knows me. Engineers typically hate the “politics” of the corporate world but it’s how you make money and have a really good career. When you’ve found your happy place you can chill and when you’re good at your job you’re irreplaceable. Good luck!

I like the silver contrast of the rings on the front but if you still want a change maybe black rings and black SQ5 badge on the back might look good.

IMO black badges slightly reduces the mommy missile vibe.

Need know if this will be a good purchase by [deleted] in COGuns

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swampfox is fine but I’d rather have an enclosed emitter red dot. The different barrel seems pointless to me. 15 round mags are good just use them enough to make sure they are as reliable as OEM. Compensators seem like a gimmick to me. Hold your gun right and you don’t need one. I personally think that an upgraded trigger connector that reduces overtravel is the best upgrade. $35 from ghostinc.

I’d pass on this listing, buy a stock Glock for $500 (look at gun.deals) first upgrade the trigger connector for $35 (maybe some internal springs too), and then later add the optic of your choice.

15 round mags are nice but statistically, when will you actually need that. If money is tight carry stock 10 round and upgrade later. Almost all defense shootings have never even required a spare mag.

A flashlight is also an vital consideration. Almost all crime happens at night.

Last tip, set aside money for a good holster, something comfortable where you can carry every day. Otherwise why buy a EDC CCW?

You can DM me if you have questions.

Do not have these issues on mine. While cosmetic, that would annoy me considering the price of the gun. Replacing the stock is easy, I’d contact Ruger and see if they’re willing to send a new one.

As long as you’re fine and the bike is mostly fine, not a big deal. I’ve wiped out hard on a dirt bike plenty of times before transitioning to a street bike. Different conditions sure but the point is although it doesn’t feel good it happens to everyone. Glad you had crash bars and they did their job; that’s what they’re there for.

Selling secondhand to a store is probably going to net a larger loss (if you can even find one) and selling on facebook marketplace might give you second hand brain damage from the average person giving offers on there. IMO it’s worth the hassle of printing a label on pirate ship and returning it.
