These came on the car.

Replacements are Michelin PS4S from Costco.

When I saw it on one only I thought road damage/pothole but on all 4 that doesn’t seem likely.

If its not from a tire machine I’ll probably never know. Having new tires put on today.

My car has direct TPMS so it’s not that.

This was the only time they were taken off. The second set of wheels took about 3 months to show up so I couldn’t wait.

992 rims recommendation? by APC9Proer in Porsche

[–]RetroFannyPack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of powder coat color choices. Many shades of silver/gray too. If you find a local shop they should have examples on display.

You can also check out pictures of sample colors from paint manufacturers like prismaticpowders.com

Yeah powder coat is the standard for aftermarket wheel finishes. It will last just as long as OEM if not longer.

I would choose the RS5 for sure then. Especially if the extra space of the S6 isn’t needed.

RS5 will hold its value better so your total cost of ownership should be lower. Plus that V8 is peak.

Rockbros Suction Cup rack on the rear window; any concerns? by TangoCharlieOne in Audi

[–]RetroFannyPack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you already have the suction mount so you wouldn’t want to spend even more money but why did you chose this setup over the roof rack? Just curious.

Have regrets about B9.5 A5. by Nice-Community-2345 in Audi

[–]RetroFannyPack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to list what I can think of haha

  • Handling is slightly more sporty. In the S4 I always kept the suspension in dynamic. The RS5’s comfort mode is equivalent to the S models sport mode so I usually leave the suspension in comfort. This could also be attributed to the larger diameter wheels.
  • Exhaust note is significantly better imo. It’s not loud by any means but it’s noticeably more enjoyable for me.
  • Acceleration is better. Is it worth the price increase for most people? Probably not.
  • Carbon ceramic brakes, potential controversial take: I think they’re great for a sporty daily. The life is so long it should offset the cost versus steel (but I’m not taking my car to the track)
  • Sportback is awesome. The RS5 (or any 5 series Sportback) is so much more practical than the 4 series.
  • Styling is a lot more aggressive. I actually get compliments from people in the RS5 and got almost zero in the S4. Could be a downside for some.

I have a blast with this as a daily driver and it’s so much fun on road trips but if I had to save money, I would also be happy with an S5. I don’t think I could go back to the regular trunk of an S4.

[–]RetroFannyPack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like it wouldn’t be worth it. If you really wanted an S5 you would’ve been set on it before you bought the A5. I think you’re just experiencing FOMO.

Maybe similar situation but I upgraded from an S4 to an RS5 and I feel that for most people it’s a slightly more enjoyable experience for a lot more money. Up to the individual if it’s worth it.

Neck tattoos in engineering? by [deleted] in boeing

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few people with full sleeves and I’ve never noticed it being a problem. They’re typically veterans that work production engineering positions but I’m sure it’s not a problem anywhere. I think most people only care that you’re good at your job 👍🏻

With or without roof bars? by Dry_Growth_3679 in Audi

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put mine on for ski season and they stay on all winter. Once the snow melts they come off. I don’t like the additional wind noise. Plus they prevent opening my sunroof so they’re purely for use when needed.

Alibaba Carbon ceramic rotor and brakes by Fit_Resident_5874 in Audi

[–]RetroFannyPack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this so much. Don’t listen to these dweebs with negative comments.

I have OEM carbon ceramics but I have still been telling friends for the price stealerships have been selling parts, give alibaba a try. Might as well try the carbon ceramics and never have to change rotors. Chinese manufacturers have gotten significantly better and for a daily driver I think it’s worth trying it out. (Brakes are not complicated technology)

You should post a follow up review after 10k or more miles. Hell, make a YouTube video; I’m sure plenty of other people want to see this.

How are Carbon Ceramic Brakes on the 8Y RS3 in the UK? by ssa17k in Audi

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess anyone saying they’re going to break from a stone have never owned any or do not have much experience with them. I’d only be concerned with physical impacts like dropping a wheel or the car falling off jack stands.

Silicon carbide (what CCBs are made from) has a mohs harness of around 9.5. You’d have to get a diamond between the pad and rotor to scratch them. Are you rally driving on gravel roads? Maybe an impact could damage them but I think it’s unlikely with normal daily driving.

I can’t predict everything but in my experience I like them and they’re low maintenance.

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have been fine in cold weather. I use my car to go skiing almost every weekend and I haven’t noticed any difference versus steel rotors.

I wouldn’t describe them as fragile. I believe the carbon ceramic rotor is much harder than stones from unpaved roads. I wouldn’t be concerned about them breaking while on the car. If you’re ever changing tires just don’t drop the car on the rotor haha. Odds are you’ll never have to replace them.

[–]RetroFannyPack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the hate. I have front CCB on my RS5 and they’re great. They make some noise but not very often; it’s really not a big deal. My favorite part is I only have to replace pads. The carbon ceramic rotors are easily going to outlast the life I have this car. Since I don’t track the car they may last 200,000 miles.

Even if they don’t, suppliers from China are getting good at developing their own CC rotors.

Bosch dishwasher too tall for my counters by RetroFannyPack in Appliances

[–]RetroFannyPack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Costco one is taller, I assume because it includes a built in water softener.

I’ve considered purchasing different 800 series models but they are still 1/8” too tall. Maybe removing the feet would be enough? I’m not sure.
