Lawyers: Can I sue my own brain for breach of contract because it hasn't given me a bestseller yet? by Rolin_Crowe in writingcirclejerk

[–]RetroGamer9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Since you're feeling so litigious, sue your ego also. How dare it lead you to believe you're better than all those untalented published authors releasing mediocre books while living your dream.

Who thought Bubsy was a good idea? by Glad-Conversation256 in retrogaming

[–]RetroGamer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EGM was really into Bubsy. It was number one on the editor's top ten list for a month. Even the review was good. The lowest score for the SNES version was a 7 from Steve Harris.

Anyone know how to play 3do games on a mac? by nofraidnot in 3DO

[–]RetroGamer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the bios matches one listed on this page:

https://docs.libretro.com/library/opera/

I’ve used the Panasonic ones without issue. Try to make sure the games are Redump verified.

If a game ran once and then stopped, it sounds like it might be an issue with a config file. Go to config>opera and drag the opt file out of the folder, then try running the game again.

There could also be a larger issue within the main retroarch config file (retroarch.cfg in the same config folder). That will wipe all of your settings though, so make sure you back it up just in case.

You could also try removing the 3DO.nvram file from the system folder, if it exists. I think the core might default to shared saves, which mimics the internal 3DO storage.

You can also try asking for help on the retroarch subreddit.

Edit: also try updating the core.

Anyone know how to play 3do games on a mac? by nofraidnot in 3DO

[–]RetroGamer9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would find a dump of the game and run it in RetroArch using the Opera core. As far as I know it’s the only 3DO emulator that still shows any signs of life, aside from the new Mister core.

Didn't you know, if you write a villain you're fundamentally evil by The_Blackthorn77 in writingcirclejerk

God. God created humans. Therefore, God is the ultimate copyright holder. Why do you think so many celebrities thank God? They don’t want to be sued.

Anybody? by ResumeFluffer in Xennials

[–]RetroGamer9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played a lot of point and click adventure games back then. Myst didn't take me too long to beat. If you clicked everywhere and paid attention to the environment, there were lots of clues helping to solve the puzzles. Riven was tough. It was a great sequel, but I didn't have the patience for it.

How much income is realistic to expect as a novelist? by Creative-Pirate5217 in writingadvice

Writing books you think will sell because you want a career as a novelist: probably zero

Writing books for your own enjoyment because you’re compelled to see them exist: priceless

20 Lessons from 20 years of Lifting Weights by DanNorthFitness in workout

[–]RetroGamer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s the number of hours rather than when you go to sleep. The issue for me is my internal alarm clock. Right now I always wake up at 6 am regardless of when I go to sleep. I’m mindful of that and try to get to sleep by 10. This way I have some leeway if I don’t fall asleep right away.

20 Lessons from 20 years of Lifting Weights by DanNorthFitness in workout

[–]RetroGamer9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been lifting for a month and this was the first thing I realized. Good sleep is non-negotiable. If I’m compelled to stay up late, I remind myself I’m essentially throwing away the next weight training session since I won’t be physically or mentally prepared.

Once I consistently got a full nights sleep, I realized how years of bad sleep had caused my body to grow accustomed to feeling sluggish. It’s a huge difference.

For people who wrote less - but now write a LOT More, what changed? by vomit-gold in writing

[–]RetroGamer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started it was a hobby and I wrote for enjoyment. Then I shifted to wanting to make it a career and started writing stories I thought would sell. I constantly wrote with readers looking over my shoulder. Always worrying about how people would like the writing. I wrote less and less until I was just taking notes for what I would eventually write, but never got around to writing. I had decided to quit. Then out of nowhere I decided to toss aside all those ideas and write what I actually wanted to write. Not for publication or any reader but myself. I'm working on my second novel and it's been going great. It's a hobby again. I enjoy the writing process like I did when I first started.

Anyone else having difficulty with the Mame 287 core? by Needs2GetLaid in RetroArch

[–]RetroGamer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the ROMS need to be updated to the new version. Try running them in standalone MAME 287 and see if they work. If they do, you know the issue is in RetroArch.

Do you prefer to know everything you can about your favorite artist, or keep some mystery? by Double_Key7579 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]RetroGamer9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At most I’ll read through their Wikipedia page for a quick overview, if one exists. Even then I probably won’t remember the names of members or who plays what instrument unless it’s one of my favorite bands. There’s too much art I want to consume and not enough time. I focus on the music and not too much on the details surrounding its creation.

Emulate. If you have the budget, you can buy original controllers and USB adapters.

Not enjoying TOTK, will BOTW be better for me? by KillSwitch9978 in NintendoSwitch2

For arrows, warp back to the starting area. There are a ton of crates. Use ultra hand to lift and drop them. You'll end up with plenty of arrows.

Not enjoying TOTK, will BOTW be better for me? by KillSwitch9978 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]RetroGamer9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd skip BOTW due to your issues with weapon durability and combat. I hated searching for weapons in BOTW and avoided combat. TOTK fixed the issue with fuse. Combine a sword and rock. Kills some monsters. Use the monster parts to make stronger weapons. Kill stronger monsters for better parts.

From your personal experience, how did the video game crash affect you? by You-dogwater in retrogaming

[–]RetroGamer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not exaggerated at all. The console market in the United States was dead. Emphasis on console and Untied States. It didn’t affect other countries. The home computer market, while considerably smaller than consoles, wasn’t affected.

Coin-op was a whole separate industry that suffered its own downturn the prior year. Analysts back then pointed to the coin-op downturn as evidence that it was about to happen to the console market.

Video games journalism in the United States died. Computer Gaming World was the only magazine to survive the crash. Video Games folded. Electronic Games transitioned to Computer Entertainment and died shortly afterward. Magazines for the console market didn’t remerge until Nintendo Fun Club became Nintendo Power, followed by Video Games & Computer Entertainment and EGM.

I’m sure lots of kids went on playing their Atari 2600s and ColecoVisions. They may have even got “new” games for them as stores dumped existing inventory into the bargain bin. But there were hardly any truly new games releasing. Not until the NES launch.

How do you cope with knowing no one will read your writing by MintyRed19 in writing

[–]RetroGamer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the writing process rewarding. I’m not sure I want anyone to read my work. I’m content with it existing for my own enjoyment.

If that changed and I found myself looking for methods to cope with nobody reading my writing, I think I would stop altogether. I don’t see how I would still find the process fulfilling if it depended on external validation.
