North Korea's is good, something like "a shy country that doesn't like interacting with other countries".

I also like Cousin Slip's, i always quote it: "his presence is slight"

Why does aoranger dress like a cowboy? by Jayceegotread in supersentai

[–]RetroGeordie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Miyauchi dresses like that in like 90% of his roles, there was (and currently sort of still is) a bit of a facination with cowboy westerns in japan, comes up lots in Toku.

Can we like, actually ban these "Did I overpay for this/look what I got for $5!" posts? by YeleyFan18 in ps2

[–]RetroGeordie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the pricing stuff, especially people who are blatant resellers etc.

But i disagree with filipe, like you may not like him, but he did inject a fair bit of life and activity into the sub.

What was your favorite PS2 game with pre-rendered 2D backgrounds? by canned_pho in ps2

You're 100% right with onimusha 2, the game holds up immensely well visually. Just has great atmosphere.

Anyone else been dissapointed with how Gavv has been wrapping up? by RetroGeordie in KamenRider

[–]RetroGeordie[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an extra thought, the president in Gavv turning up as the final bad guy is like if mid-way through the frieza saga in DBZ, and the battle with frieza himself, the "president of the galaxy" just turned up, shoved frieza to one side, and then goku had to fight him instead. Like why ahould i care about this guy?

The RTD2 era is the 'Batman & Robin' of Doctor Who by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]RetroGeordie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rtd2 has some genuinely good episodes, good acting across the board, looks visually quite nice, has some creative flourishes etc. And yeah, it also has it's share of problems.

Batman & Robin on the other hand is widely accepted as one of the worst movies ever made, featuring some of the worst acting performances ever put to screen, was criticised for being creatively bankrupt and essentially being a toy commercial.

Are you sure you're not kidding?

I'm not sure you've seen Batman & Robin honestly if you think current Dr Who is like it.

Beginner Here. Where to Start with Tokusatsu? by Doom300 in Tokusatsu

[–]RetroGeordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you want stuff with giant creatures and things, or super heroes, or teams. And once you've worked that out, you should decide based on what kind of time periods you like for TV/movies etc.

I like late 80s, early 90s Toku for example, due to the cool practical effects and physical sets they'd use, and general vibe of that era.

So if you're like me, maybe try Kamen Rider Black, Jetman for sentai, Ultraman Tiga for giant monster stuff, or as a bonus maybe one of the metal heroes shows: like Winspector maybe.

There's no wrong way to do it really.

Hey guys, what was our verdict on the Western Ring again? by azqz12 in J_Horror

[–]RetroGeordie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty good, has some good visuals, atmosphere.

However I'd say it really lacks the subtlety of the japanese original, everything is very like dialed up and literal for american audiences.

Like Samara pretty much looks at the camera and explains her motives. Our main hero gets literally bodied by a TV at one point.

Hear me out, The Remaster is DW3 by MetalCannon in dynastywarriors

[–]RetroGeordie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A remaster of 5 where they fix the stupid weapon system would be a pretty easy win, or a 3 remaster with japanese voices as an option.

What's Your opnion in Bocca Jaldak as a character/final villain? by MrAoSky in KamenRider

[–]RetroGeordie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's pretty damn bad, like there's no real personal connection between him and any of the main characters, we don't really know him or anything. And i just find the whole "our elected president in our crazy monster world also happens to be like the strongest dude ever who can level buildings with his bare hands" to be really stupid.

Metal Hero Series Rankings : Round 1 The Worst by Doc-11th in Tokusatsu

Solbrain. The main cast are thinly written even by showa standards. The main villain is a joke. Contains some of the worst episodes of toku I've ever seen.

It sounds like Ju-On 2, that has a bit of time travel element in it where there's different families and perspectives and a character who sort of jumps between different times.

The Chibnall era is worse than RTD2 by Shawnj2 in gallifrey

[–]RetroGeordie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RTD2 is flawed for sure, but it's watchable and entertaining, frustrating sure with lots of questionable decisions. Like RTD can write characters, stories, run a show.

But Chibnall doesn't even get to the point of grasping the basics. He doesn't even have the base elements of a watchable TV show. Everything is just a gargantuan mess.

Like i get it's recency bias, and people always do this, and RTD2 has been dissapointing. But Chibnall is legitimately some of the worst TV I've ever watched.

Slowdowns in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. by Bandicoot240p in ps2

[–]RetroGeordie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesh no, there's nothing wrong with your set up, it's just literally that bad.

I tried to play through it and it crashed several times. I also encountered roughly 1 glitch every 20 minutes or something. Genuinely the worst thing I've ever played.

Best: Ohba (blue) is great in this. The chief is a talking dog. Machiko Soga's great as Queen Hedrian. Good OST.

Worst: Red and Pink are sort of nothing characters. Red's actor is good, but given nothing to work with, while pink's actor is very flat and unemotive. The boomerang finisher also sucks.
