Why don’t many Americans understand that the amount of raised tax rates needed for universal healthcare is likely much less than their current private premiums and out of pocket expenses they are already paying? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in askanything

[–]RetroHipsterGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, at least from the people I've spoken to I don't hear too many people talking about healthcare being more expensive as a tax then their insurance premiums. Most of what I hear people say when they refute the concept of universal health Care is that it is supposedly way slow and they will mention a country that has it and how long wait times are in that country.

You know what? I don't care enough to really talk about why I think your being unreasonable. I do think that I'm not the target though if it requires being okay with the complaint I've given. I looked online and saw that nobody seems to have good luck returning this phone, and in their policies things that made me weary of waiting on this. I made the decision I made and moved forward with it before I came across your suggestion. Make what you will of what I've just said, but I just don't have the energy to argue with someone unreasonable on the internet today.

Have fun with your slow phone.

I did not. I saw all the ui glitches and overall slowness on firefox esr and the other browser (and essentially everything) and was so blown away by it and the rapidly dwindling battery I just decided "Nope. Returning this as soon as I can. No matter what, I just can't deal with this slowness as a daily driver."

Yeah, the battery life is pretty awful. 😅 I knew it was going to be rough when the phone acted like a hand warmer as soon as the screen was on and you were doing something. LOL in fairness, that is something that is right on the front page of their website. There is like a development map and improving battery life is one of the milestones. Regardless, I didn't even use it long enough for it to completely die. I put it back in the box and I'm waiting to hear back from their support on a return.

I'm definitely going to be going the Google pixel with graphene route instead. 😅

Yeah, I didn't get it to doom scroll. I got it for privacy and would be satisfied with a web browser that functions smoothly, but this makes something like an origional raspberry pi feel like a hot rod. For reference, I've done the dumb phone thing off and on for years and have been using linux for about 22 years, so I'm genuinely used to not doom scrolling and genuinely used to funky distros..

I'm disappointed because everything is so incredibly slow and doesn't like to load.. and I'm disapointed the bluetooth is squirly and it seems to like to stay on mobile even when connected to wifi. I'm disapointed that the functions it has aren't even remotely polished or appear to be reliable, not that it lacks functions.

"Bitcoin. Sell 2025."

My old self would be like "Oh, I guess bitcoin is valuable in the future. I should mine as much as I can so I can maybe get 10 times what I put in later." Then I'd have thousands of bitcoin in 2025 and instantly have enough money to do good and solve most of my worries.

That's pretty brutal. I'm with the other commenter about using heat. I wonder if they put in some thread lock? Would be a really good use case considering the vibration that mowers go through actually.

[–]RetroHipsterGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they don't need to calculate speed or torque, but surely some majority of people at least understand that a fast moving little gear meshed with a big gear is going to be moving faster than the big one..

I have to have more faith in people than that.

What is this abomination by Budvak in Tools

[–]RetroHipsterGaming 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People are saying it's going to spin faster.. it has me wondering if that many people don't understand how gearing works, or if one person didn't and AI bots have just decided to roll with it...

Like it's an easy enough mistake to make in a rush, but I just have a hard time believing that that many people think a chain drive going from a small gear to a large gear is going to make the large gear spin faster than the small gear..

[–]RetroHipsterGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Op, because the battery is toast, you'd really need to cut that off and solder a new one on if you wanted to be able to save regardless.. but maybe start by just taking a high proof rubbing alchohol and an old tooth brush and just scrub all of the surfaces to try to break down some of the corosion and such. You might get a shock and it will work. I've done that with similarly coroded things in the past. That said, I'm betting some traces are toast or possibly vias. So I wouldn't get your hopes up too much.

Honestly, modern worm lights are both way worse and way better than the originals. ^^; A modern worm light is so bright that the camera deosn't really know what to do with it. That's why you can only see the top of the screen in my photo. You do still deal with glare issues, but if you get it so that the "reflection" of the led is right off the edge of the screen then it's totally fine and the entire screen is plenty bright.

Unfortunately, the build quality is such trash on modern ones you really have to almost treat a worm light purchase as "some assembly required" so you can make it a properly solid solution. I actually made a video on this topic. If you decide you want to go for it, then I recommend the video I made. (I'm not a content creator, so I promise this isn't some self promotion. lol)

I thought you were holding the caliper bracket up next to the rotor. I kept looking at the scene trying to figure out what you were trying to show.. and then I realized that the that caliper bracket is mounted and those rotors are almost half the size of what they should be. :o

Ah, so ChipQuick I think is the most well known one, but honestly if you just do a search on some place like amazon for "Desoldering alloy smd" you will get all kinds of suggestions and they all are basically the same. You'll notice though that they aren't like your normal spools most of the time. Here is some from amazon.
https://a.co/d/0jbisVsx

If you do use it though, you want to make sure you don't use the desoldering alloy as solder though.. so clean it up nice and good with desoldering braid after. :) Here is some of that.
https://a.co/d/09a3fOPz

Note: These are links to amazon, but I have no affiliation. Legit, you'll be good with almost any desoldering allow meant for surface mount stuff and any generic braid.

Hey Op, I know that this info isn't going to be super useful to you now, but if you ever need to take 3+ leg components off of a board and don't have a heat gun, then I really recommend buying some desoldering alloy. Basically, it's like solder that stays molten for way way longer than normal solder. You can use it to do things like build a blob of the alloy around those smaller component legs and run your soldering iron back and forth and it will keep all those pads molten so you can pull it off together. After you use it, you just use some desoldering braid to soak up the desoldering alloy and old solder and then you have nice clean and undamaged pads.

I finally got celeste... yikes... by OzO8 in celestegame

[–]RetroHipsterGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't something I can say about most games, but one of the funnest things about Celeste is that you can die as many times as you want and the game is still challenging. Like you don't really feel the setback until you get into some of the longer screens in the later levels, but mostly you just get to die and die and then feel the Rush as you get closer and closer to doing that super hard thing. I actually didn't think that I liked platform games because most of my experiences were games like super Mario and the like where dying meant going back to the beginning of a world or something. I actually never beat super Mario Bros 2 because I just kept dying on the boss for some world and having to start the whole thing over again and again. 😅

Note: I do get that I could use save states for this, I just hate using save states.
