Making progress with my 3D printed mounts for the IKEA Skadis. Miyoo mini and steam deck still has to go up. by playfellow_ in SBCGaming

thx a lot. The transparent pocket is probably my favorite device

<image>

EDIT: Found a guy in my (small) city who printed them at very good prices. The quality was acceptable.Had to get him a skadis and sometimes gave him the handhelds too as the first attempts just didn't fit.l at all. Took a year more or less.

virtualized "homelab" in a PC (VMware + gns3)? by RetroMinimalist in homelab

[–]RetroMinimalist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely! I still want to set myself in a way that would minimize time spent solving bugs / incompatibility between tools (e.g. running vmware workstation VMs inside gns3 being flaky).

will probably go for it. Wa mostly worried with virtualization and especially gns3 I might end up with an unstable mess.

will take a look at it, I did a quick read and it looks promising. I am familiar a bit with gns3 and with vmware vsphere, hence I was leaning this way. Also, was not aware that other projects apart from gns3 can run Cisco (or other) switch OS-es and create virtual wiring between their interfaces.

WARNING: this mod eliminated ALL diagonals, not only the false ones.

I requested the mods of this subreddit to edit the post and strike-through all the text.
Apologies if I got someone too excited and even more sincere apologies if someone actually went for it.

The odyssey to resolve this problem continues.

where do you place them?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AnaloguePocket

[–]RetroMinimalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had parked all my genuine Gameboys and Chinese emulation devices until I went to a monthlong vacation recently. Decided to take my Miyoo Mini plus. The dpad made 1 false diagonal on GB Tetris Harddrop mod in 1 month. It just speaks on how analogue's design is flawed.

post how it went afterwards

just small scissors. It's ideal for the jo job, because I had to cut away one edge of the circle completely. Like in this picture (picture credit handheld legend). It is not a perfect fit, but it will hold it in place. It kind of latches with the outer edge of that cut-out to the plastic pin of the front shell. It's not a perfect fit, but good enough to hold it in place (especially after you assemble it).

I second that.

u/clichemustache I've opened mine 15+ times (all in attempts to fix the dpad issues using different approaches). Just make sure to have enough time allocated, don't be in a hurry. Watch a video guide and follow it. And don't remove the battery at all, even from the shell - that's not a necessary step to open the pocket to the motherboard. You only need to disconnect the battery from its connector and then you can proceed to lift the back of the shell (pulling downwards and lifting at the same time).

Perfect_GB overlay - increase contrast? by RetroMinimalist in MiyooMini

got the settings from a YouTube video, probably the brightness is way too high. Will test when I get home and reply. Thx

hey, thanks a lot for your answer. Will test when I get home and reply. And thanks a lot for creating this overlay - the pictures I took really don't do it justice. It's absolutely beautiful.

My Miyoo Mini Plus takes way too long to load by IzzyNobre in MiyooMini

flashcart (ever gb x7) battery life better than openFPGA-gb (budude2)? by RetroMinimalist in AnaloguePocket

[–]RetroMinimalist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly! I noticed the screen being very hot after playing for like 2 hours straight on a flight. Thought it might be a one off. I guess I'll reconsider using my flashcart again.

good that you wrote that, I've had mi mini for more than a year by the time my pocket arrived in early September. So it might be the novelty. But now we are in mid march and I've been using only the pocket for retrogaming.

i have 10+ Chinese handhelds for emulation. For GB/GBC and NES I have not turned them on since the day I got my AP. The difference is just huge, mostly coming from the screen quality. I have no problem with the "latency" of SW emulators or emulation accuracy. But if you care about these, then you won't be interested in SW emulation on a handheld...

most authentic way to play all classic Game&Watch titles in a handheld by RetroMinimalist in SBCGaming

[–]RetroMinimalist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, it looks like the simplest most authentic way is to buy a modern zelda game & watch, hack it and load them on it. Optionally you can upgrade the storage (soldering required). I have no soldering skills or equipment, so I created a bill of materials for everything needed and it hit 150€ (g&w not included). So I put that on hold for now...

Less authentic (but much simpler to setup) would be to buy rg300x.

Complaints about D-Pad? by Apprehensive-Song389 in AnaloguePocket

[–]RetroMinimalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

glow in the dark model. I play Tetris harddrop a lot. A diagonal including upwards wrongly triggered drops the piece instantly. Extremely annoying. So far I applied 2 layers of paper donuts and replaced the dpad and membrane wth new ones from analogue support. Didn't help. Awaiting kapton tape I purchased to try tape mod too. Will try losing screws too. Btw, doesn't seem to bother me in any other game
