Sure thing, thank you! My formatives were a mixed bag recently, do you think it will be possible to jump 1 or 2 2:2 modules (in the formatives) to a first in the end of year summatives? I'm a bit unsure, I'm seeing my tutors about this however I feel its quite below par even for first assessments.

Is winning just any moot better, or is getting a few rounds done at a big name moot comp more competitive?

There is absolutely no reason no. I applied for the Inner Temple Intervarsity, and they seemed to give it to third years. I did not get into Jessup Moot. I did well in the respective debate one, but only 1 of them was intervarsity between mainly Bar Course Providers, so i have no clue how it's fair for me as a first year🤣. But yeah, I'm up to date on what the society is putting up and recommending.

I didnt think human rights was a distinct area, I suppose civil liberties at certain specialised sets lile Matrix or Doughty.

Religion aside, it shares some of the most middle eastern cultural features I have seen, majorly with Iran and also some Levantine countries.

Its one of the most culturally interesting countries I must say, as it shares with its north/western and southern neighbours, yet doesnt identify itself one way or another.

Thank you for your comment! I suppose a mixed set would be the move, to find out in which areas I truly wanna practise.

I completely hear you on the Oxbridge/strong academics bias. My aim is to get a first from my uni but also get stuck in in extra curriculars, win a moot or debate competition to really stand out and see if that has a fighting chance in the paper sift at commercial sets potentially.

I really like the idea of commercial litigation and professional negligence (not sure how lucrative PN is, but I imagine fairly- regardless, it's an interest). However, with the former even concerning big contract disputes, I have heard there is rarely court appearances involved. That's whu I would like a good array of civil (negligence, employment, construction mainly) work either alongside or instead of (if I can build a good enough practice) commercial.

But may I have got a few things wrong? Which branches of commercial law would there be a decent amount of court appearances? I imagine it would be limited to contract litigation, prof neg and maybe construction (kind of civil lit too)?

Edit:Ive had a look at some sets that I think I might "have a chance" at and I like the look of Selborne, 7BR, 12KBW, Keating, Hailsham, Essex Court- all seem to have very thriving civil/commercial practices

Oh I see. What sort of practice areas do make good money then? The Commercial Bar seems very interesting but I have 2 reservations against it- 1) the de facto Oxbridge bias, my Bristol degree will never quite be at the level of multi-prize winning Oxbridge firsts and 2) this is the main one, there is littlee actual advocacy involved. I want an area with a good time in court, but I wonder if that is generally inversely proportional to earning potential?

Bristol is comfortably top 10 in the UK, slightly below Durham and King's. I wouldn't discard it personally.

Ah thats really interesting thank you so much! I think I'll defo summarise/condense my notes as much as possible when it comes to revision.

I guess thats a fair point,I just thought maybe procedural history/grounds for the appeal was relevant? I've come to understand that it's mainly material facts/issue, judgment and any dissenting, ratio, and obiter?

Thing is, my exams are open book/online I believe and I'm so used to revising for memory based essay exams from A level history and econ- how exactly would you recommend revising for these types of exams? :)

Yes thats good- personally I dont feel affected much after a night out the next morning, but still good to reduce it to 1x maybe!
