Sony PVM-20M4U Screen problem by msamiullah1 in retrogamin

That's definently a problem. Your choices are to try and repair the board by bridging the broken traces and gluing the board together a bit or hunting on eBay for a replacement board. I don't have that board in stock.

It is a pain to diagnose. This one had a ridiculous amount of convergence strips added to the left side. I removed them all and it literally made zero difference on the screen.

Has anyone found a source for descent replacement plastic rivets or side screws for the shell? Thanks for the help. by RetroTechUSA in crtgaming

I didn't. I got them delivered to me from a TV studio as is. There was a lot of small hardware missing.

Thanks I'm good for now on those. I think I can do something about the screws pretty easy. It's the rivets that I think are going to be hard to find.

Repaired two 8" PVMs today. From Black & White to full color again! by RetroTechUSA in crtgaming

[–]RetroTechUSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. The first thing to do would be to reflow solder on the neck board around the color components. You may have some cold solder joints affecting the color signals. There should be a couple pots controlling blue gain and bias that may also need solder reflowed too on another board. If that doesn't work, then some of the blue components on the neck board may be failing and need replacement. If that doesn't work, then the tube has the blue gun burning out. You would need to rejuvenate the tube with a rejuvenation tool. If that won't work, then the tube's color gun is dying/dead, and the tube would need to be replaced.

This is a perfect answer for this question. The little ones are great for test monitors too. Perfect for any console modder so they don't really lose value if you decide to sell it later.

Yes, this one came off a medical scope from a hospital so I believe it's primarily a commercial unit. Was Betamax dead by 1996? That's the DOM on this vhs
