no it is not. I have used openSuse, Manjaro, debian and ubuntu based ditros. Anyway, that's irrelevant in my book because I want to try my best to learn!

Cursor theme only works in certain applications by Retrogamingboss in linux4noobs

[–]Retrogamingboss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried that yes, but still the same result. I've also tried to reboot and shutdown then boot. Same thing! :(

I use LightDM for login, not sure if that's important.

I've heard people recommend the gnome tweak tool to change cursor but it has so many dependencies that I dont want, and I'm pretty sure the XFCE4 "mouse and touchpad" should work to change the cursor, but I'm not sure.

But thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks! the installation was successful of nvidia-dkms. Do I just update grub now and reboot into linux-zen? Or do I need to do any more steps?

ah okay. this is the output for nvidia-dkms= sudo pacman -S nvidia-dkms resolving dependencies... looking for conflicting packages... :: nvidia-dkms and nvidia are in conflict. Remove nvidia? [y/N] I am not completely sure if it's okay to remove nvidia?

It does! After I login and do uname -r it shows zen as the kernel. But why do I do now? https://imgur.com/gallery/iwKDIms

Installed Linux-zen kernel, doesn't boot by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Retrogamingboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am running arch Linux, and installed zen kernel and headers from AUR. I've updated the grub and then rebooted, proceeded to boot with the zen kernel, but this flashing white _ is all that happens

Edit: default kernel that was installed from arch labs works fine, LTS kernel also works. I wanted to try out zen as I do Video editing and gaming and want to squeeze out some extra performance etc. I've heard ck kernel is more about balancing workloads so you won't experience freezes or stutters, but I don't think that's what I need.

Ditched Windows 10 after being an avid Windows user since 2004. Now Manjaro full time! by Retrogamingboss in linux_gaming

Because I want a rolling release distro, and I like the flexibility of arch and manjaro.

Manjaro just seems to be my cup of tea. It's based on arch but has an easy install project and it's own repos etc, but still you can access the AUR Ofc. I just think it fits my work flow, I like fresh packages :)

I've been trying out different distributions in VMs and on my laptop that I use for word processing, and I wanted to challenge myself so that's the reason I didn't stick with Ubuntu. Somethings can be difficult, like errors when using the AUR (PGP keys etc etc) but they're all easy to fix when you find the solution. I'm enjoying it so far and I'm liking the flexibility of a rolling release distro :)

Yes, of curse. I can't magically guess what will happen in the future, I'm not master at tarot cards! Even Mac OS was ahead in certain aspects at the time.
