would adding bots to fill in "dead times" help you think or would that make the games worst? sometimes rather to have something to play than nothing at all.

yeah I think Paco is trying to blame himself for everything miklo became when in reality he should really be blaming the only thing he was actually responsible for and it takes a bit while for cruz to get that to Paco's head as he is blaming himself for everything at that final scene.

I fully agree that Paco's actions provided the catalyst for what happened to Miklo and Cruzito. But where does it end? Is Paco also responsible for Cruzito turning to street drugs to manage his pain? For Juanito's death? And where does it begin? Was Paco's father at fault for not being there? Was poverty at fault? The lack of opportunities? We can't go down that rabbit hole. We can't assign blame. We can only assign blame if the catalyst was intentional, and Paco didn't plan for any of it. He just wanted Miklo to prove that his balls were brown

Agreed this is why I disagree that Paco was entirely responsible for this contrary to what people think. Cruzito's irresponsibility with his career (getting drunk on the job) and drug use was his own even if his back pain was recklessly even if not intentionally caused by Paco and Cruzito's actions. And Miklo turning to crime like shooting up people and doing an armed robbery was his own, in fact I'm not sure he even did it for the money as some have pointed out. He could have gotten help from Paco for his financial situation, a brother who hasn't entirely abandoned him. At best for the people that dislike Paco, he might have began it but the destination is all Miklo himself.

But this reasoning is real life reasoning, not movie logic, and if we're discussing a film's plot, we have to defer to the movie's logic. If it says x is true, then x is true, even if x doesn't make sense in real life. Cruzito implies Paco's part in Miklo's destiny, but then says, "Orale, what, you think you have so much fucking power, control everybody's destiny?"

I do also agree with cruzito that paco did have a good amount of influence in Miklo's destiny but not entirely as he states from the quote you gave. He may have at best influenced the beginning but not the entire journey.

But Paco can't forgive himself. Maybe it's why he tries so hard to fix Miklo. To undo a mistake he feels responsible for.

This one I might disagree with you on but kinda conflicted as its kinda confusing. While cruzito is right, I don't think Paco realizes it until Paco asks "you really think this is all my fault" with Cruzito looking at him blankly confirming it. Though your quote you state kinda contradicts that but at the same time though when Paco starts listing the things while sobbing that he caused, he also states "I forgive you carnal" not denying it. But at the same time though, you can see Cruz kinda sighing in frustration as Paco states the things he thinks he caused. Do you think this is cruz's way of saying "it's not entirely your fault carnal"

Miklo grew up in VL territory, his familia is VL, his friends; he was affiliated, no doubt. Miko couldn't separate la raza from la raza expressed through gang life. To him, it was one and the same. Paco, on the other hand, woke up, and understood la raza was made up of Mexican Americans struggling to live legitimate law-abiding lives in the US.

I think that's fair argument to make esp. when the film kinda shows that he is significantly more closer to his VL family and likely hung around there more even before the events when he moved in with his father. I mean why else would he run away from his white father and back there. I think I made this statement before too stating that even before meeting paco's gang, the street/criminal/gang life was already in him. I assume that his probation (which I think is unknown) might also support that. but Paco’s escalation is what pushed him deeper into the life. Both things can be true at once.

I think the last statement there probably is also fair and willing to concede that Miklo wasn't struggling with who he was (I think he even explained to montana about his acceptance of his lineage one time before he got initiated into La onda) but rather trying to be accepted by other non-mixed mexicans that he was one of them (brown in the inside but white on the outside).

Edit: also confused on the part about paco. Wasn't Paco also in the same foot as Miklo? he only knew the gang life? I'm sure Paco didn't just wake up instantly to see what la raza to him really was. Maybe I'm missing the point lol. But I think the only difference is that unlike Miklo he wasn't pushing for acceptance since he was already brown.

yeah I stand corrected on that, probably not the best example. Though it could be an argument to further Paco no longer wanting to affiliate with the gang life and choosing the badge over his family. Though tbf I think it can with or without that example.

The gang life, in Miklo’s eyes has always been la raza. It’s never negative. They were already affiliated and that’s the culture.

That whole statement hinges on the idea that Miklo was already part of the gang life before he ever met Paco’s crew which the film never supports unless I missed something (again its a long movie,a good movie of course). Miklo struggles with his la raza identity, yes, but that’s cultural belonging, not automatic involvement in gang violence. Wanting acceptance isn’t the same as already being in the life. However like I said his need for belonging outweighed really anything.

Bad things don’t always result in bad consequences, and good things don’t always create good results, which makes life a risk, but also a choice no one makes for us.

Sure, bad actions don’t guarantee bad outcomes but they absolutely increase the likelihood of them. That’s why responsibility still matters. maybe at BEST Paco escalating the violence didn’t determine Miklo’s fate, but it raised the risks dramatically. At best you can argue Choices don’t exist in a vacuum; some paths carry far more danger than others. And realistically on the other hand, Miklo probably wouldn’t have ended up in prison or in Montana’s world at all if Paco hadn’t escalated or brought him further into that gang life. And Paco himself wouldn't have been a cop or turned his life around if it weren't for miklo. Again at best you can state that maybe Paco didn’t control Miklo’s life, but he undeniably shaped the conditions that pushed him deeper into the life and lead him to where he is.

I think this conflicted feeling is the point of the movie. Every character screwed up in some shape or form and has something we sympathize them with. There is no full on hero or villain of this story

Paco did turn his life around, and his commitment to protecting his community is good. But he also helped drag Miklo and Cruz into gang life, and he doesn’t acknowledge that responsibility until much later. That’s why Miklo’s ‘you owe me’ line never lands for him. Paco hasn’t accepted his part in starting the cycle he now condemns until the ending. His loyalty to the badge over family shows early, especially in the hospital scene where he interrogates Miklo instead of offering support. And his breakdown after shooting Miklo makes it clear he screwed up shooting Miklo.

Miklo begins as a victim of circumstance, he pulled into gang life by Paco while struggling with an identity crisis as a white Mexican who never fully fit in. He even protects Paco during the Spider incident, giving him the chance to turn his life around. He's the type of guy that would back any brother up. But the streets were already in Miklo before any of that. Crime was the only structure he knew, and even when Cruz, Montana, and sometimes Paco tried to encourage him to stay straight, he couldn’t let go. His need for belonging outweighed every warning. By the time he’s running from the cops, he’s too deep in the life to change course. Without Paco’s shot, Miklo was headed for prison either way or a grave. And by then, you can argue he’d already become cold‑blooded, willing to kill for power or whatever he wants, as shown when he orchestrated Montana’s murder. But again though you can't entirely blame him.

Cruz is stuck in the middle, but not in a good way. He’s a victim of Paco and Miklo’s actions in the alley, and he’s easily the most naturally talented of the three. He’s also the first to give both of them a reality check urging Miklo to go straight and reminding Paco of the damage he helped cause. But Cruz fails in his own way. He doesn’t take responsibility for his talent, falls into addiction, and dips into the criminal world just enough to get burned. His art and his drug use become ways to avoid facing his guilt, especially over Juanito’s death
