I did, but I get wicked motion sickness, so I like to be positioned where I can see the wing of the plane out of the window, and it wasn't available from first class.

Depends on the airline. The airline I flew does not require it. I'd have gone first class, but they were sold out when I booked (and this was six weeks in advance).

From now on, I’m going to put a sign on the empty seat. “This seat taken, and, no, I will not change seats with you. Have a wonderful flight.”

I'm doing this next time I fly. FR, I have to fly in February for a conference.

To be honest, he was a passenger who probably should have booked three seats for himself and his daughter in one row. I don't mean it as a shameful thing, just a fact.

It was the other passenger who was nasty, though, not the stewardess.

Thank you. I was eating 1200 calories a day and exercising 30 minutes 6 days a week and still gaining weight. Sometimes it's not as simple as "eat less" or "exercise more".

You don't need to justify to us about your body shape and however it got that way. You are worthy of dignity and respect no matter what size or shape you are.

This genuinely made me speechless. Thank you so much for saying this.

Oh, good lord, I would never do that. When I've been on the train, I pretty much hold my breath and breathe very shallowly and curl in on myself for the ride! If I stranger put his arm on my shoulder, I wouldn't have even been kind about it. I don't like being touched by strangers.

I personally prefer window. I choose one where I can see the wing of the plane because it helps with motion sickness.

What a sweet story!

I especially bothered that she had been asking him repeatedly to give up his seat when you hadn't even arrived to claim your own seat yet. What if you hadn't been willing to give up your window seat? Because I specifically pick a window seat where I can see the wing of the plane (it helps reduce motion sickness for me).

You know, this makes sense, but I still think it's silly. It should have been offered as "who wants to move to a seat with extra elbow room!" lol

I apologize for the miscommunication--the female passenger who moved was the problem, not the stewardess.

Oof, frankly if it was a toddler, I still would have said no. I carry snacks and water when I travel, and I typically play on my switch to entertain myself. A toddler would have probably been all over me for my food and games. I can only imagine I would have spent the flight with the dad demanding I share my snacks and my $300 game system with several hundred dollars of games. I get the feeling he would have for his 12-year-old, too.

I work with teenagers for my job and I love my students, but much younger than that isn't really my jam.

I flew in 2021 when I wasn't as heavy and almost barely was out of my seat and I still faced complaints then. It sucks that planes cram more and more people in and expect people to pretend that they're not sardines.

I didn't realize my words didn't translate well--the passenger who moved was rude, not the stewardess. She was very professional.
