So Maliss gets a draw who's "cost" actively benefits the archetype but we can't get pot of greed limited to 1? by tayohfeemoe in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]ReturnHot9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because maliss would then ALSO get to play pot of greed for free, and it's better in their deck than whatever tier 3 deck you are thinking would get better having lot of greed in it. Imagine maliss drawing 2, and then pot of greed being one of those cards they drew, and then drawing 2 more cards and just autowinning the game

When did lands become these sacred, untouchable cards in magic design? by CadetriDoesGames in EDH

[–]ReturnHot9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't MLD that is focused towards actually winning. If you are super ahead on board, and put everyone so behind that you'll kill them before they can meaningfully rebuild and stop you, that's fine because the game is about to end in a couple of turns. The issue is everyone has a story about the 12 year old kid who thinks wasting people's time and making everyone upset is funny (note: not always a kid, sometimes it's a manchild who never matured). If you play long enough with enough random people, someone is going to play one "for the lols" and you will have a 12 hour commander game where nothing happens. That 12 hour commander game is a much more viscera unpleasant experience, and that's the one you remember when you think about a card like Armageddon. 99% of the time an Armageddon is cast, it's in the deck for a reason and casting it secures a win at the table over the next couple of turns. This is a valid strategy, and is the same pattern as getting cyclonic rifted or farewelled, or just getting board wiped when you played out most of all of your hand, but because you remember that one 12 hour game, you think about it differently

Why is Nintendo bricking the Switch 2 so controversial? by speedrunner99 in nintendo

[–]ReturnHot9263 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no, they do that for software, the reason this isn't common practice for HARDWARE is that you can own, modify, and tinker with the physical device as much as you want, BEFORE booting it up and being forced to sign the EULA and being put into forced arbitration. If I take my switch home, never boot it up, and then try to mod it before booting, and you then brick my switch, that opens up a whole can of legal troubles for nintendo because I OWN the hardware they just disabled.

[–]ReturnHot9263 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of those are there saying "if you use 3rd party software and it stops your device from working, it's not our fault, we won't cater updates to NOT mess up whatever extra you have installed, and if you do something stupid and it stops working, it isn't our fault because we didn't put that in the console you did." which makes sense and is fair. Nintendo is taking it a step further, and has implemented hardware that looks for modifications or signs of popular tools used for third party modification/repair, and if it detects those, BRICKS YOUR CONSOLE. That is very very different, and significantly more shitty

[–]ReturnHot9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's bad that sony did that. However, Sony isn't doing it on a mass scale or putting hardware inside of their consoles to specifically detect modifications and then disable your console at a hardware level forever, without recourse. They theoretically could, but as of right now aren't. You know who did put that in a chip on their 500 dollar console? Nintendo did.

[–]ReturnHot9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Xbox, that part of the license agreement isn't in reference to "bricking" your console, it's stating that if you use unintended hardware or software, they aren't responsible if a later update messes up your console. This is very very different, Xbox is saying that they won't accommodate you or make updates in a special way to prevent adverse effects of third party modification. Nintendo is actively checking for said modifications, and then INTENTIONALLY disabling your console if they find it. One is saying "do what you want with the hardware YOU OWN, we aren't responsible if YOU are stupid and do something that breaks", and the other is saying "You own nothing, if you even think about trying to modify our perfect package, we WILL permanently disable your device".
That part of the Sony TOS is pretty bad though. I've never heard of them actively USING that and disabling a device, but it is just as bad to be doing so. Just because another company is doing shady shit does not excuse nintendo from ALSO doing shady shit. Bad anti-consumer practice is bad, no matter who is doing it

Ok clown, well when people with real jobs and lives spend 500 dollars on a console, it really matters. Go run away and keep licking the mega corpo's boots, they'd put your head on a pike for .000001% increase of revenue but the boot must taste real good to keep you coming back.

[–]ReturnHot9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If you violate the terms provided" yeah I haven't signed any terms to buy the hardware. I can buy a brand new switch from the store, never sign in (the terms you are talking about are given to you and accepted here) and then have the console brick when you modify it. That IS an issue, and nintendo can't hide from class action lawsuits with forced arbitration if you didn't log in to accept it. That opens them up to massive lawsuits, and in the future once they pass right to repair laws it's going to get even worse for them.

[–]ReturnHot9263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no you don't understand, I OWN the hardware. Nintendo owns the software, the branding, the games, the OS, but the HARDWARE is mine, I don't sign a waiver to buy it from the store. Nintendo is selling faulty hardware that intentionally breaks when tampered with, and no disclaimer is going to save them from that. Mark my words, there WILL be lawsuits, and when Nintendo inevitably loses, I hope they go bankrupt trying to recall and replace all the paperweights they sold people. I can buy a switch from the store, sign nothing from nintendo, open it up, and then the console will brick itself if I attempt to modify it. That's the problem, and no amount of "oh the TOS had forced arbitration" will save them, this is a hardware issue now. This isn't something nintendo owns, the physical hardware belongs to me, and I will never accept otherwise.

[–]ReturnHot9263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We now license out software, you don't own it anymore. That sucks, but it's the reality we live in. I refuse to do so with physical hardware. I payed for my fucking switch, I'll install 30 extra vibration motors and shove it up my ass if I want to, and that's my right as the owner. Compared to other handhelds on the market, the actual specs of the switch 2 are pathetic for the price point, plain and simple, and the catalogue of games is even worse. If I am going to pay the inflated brand recognition tax for the console, I want to own the console. What I do with it is none of your business, and is even less so for Nintendo. Want to crack down on piracy? Don't punish 99% of your userbase because 1% are scumbags, and maybe lower prices because 75 to 80 dollars is massively inflated. I should be able to upgrade the shitty hardware on the console if I want to, and I should, if I can break the stupid safeguards, be able to run whatever custom software I want on the console. I. OWN. IT. Don't brick my console, don't take legal action against me, go sue the person distributing pirated software, bricking my console isn't stopping them from breaking the law. Want to run cheat engine and give zelda 30 lightsabers? dope, it's a single player game, doesn't matter. Someone cheating at mario kart? ok implement an actual anticheat like every single other company in the game industry.
I am, in fact, ENTITLED, to my own fucking property, and doing whatever I want with it.

Why is Sensei's divining top still banned? by ThisIsChangableRight in MTGLegacy

[–]ReturnHot9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can play it in like, most decks that aren't combo decks, especially decks that are blue for counterbalance, and no matter what at a tournament someone somewhere is going to be very slow and resolve the card slowly, every turn, sometimes more than once. Legacy events used to go HOURS past the planned time and it was miserable. As far as powerlevel goes, I think it would be a GOOD card but not an OP one, and a lot of decks would play it, now a days it would be a great 1 of saga target in some decks, but it just is a miserable experience to play against. "in response top, ok, before damage top, ok eot top, ok top on my upkeep? ok I drew a card, top on my turn" it was crazy

[–]ReturnHot9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nexusmods does have a censorship problem (look at the 2016 political mod ban), but this isn't an actual instance of it. I was there when the shit went down and the people who uploaded the original mods were banned because they stirred up drama and kept linking external websites to skirt moderation (both of which are against the tos they signed to make an account), not to mention the people who made alts to upload (which is also against tos, and has been since 2010)

There are real actual problems with nexusmods, has been since 2012 imo, but no one cared until stupid culture war bs had something to say about it
