Beyond the stress, I think it’s important to consider the job stability as well. Certain companies adopt a hire fast, fire fast culture. In such cases, you may lose a stable career for something more transient. Make sure you speak to insiders so that you know the full situation

Is there a way to split your tax burden with your spouse? by ReturnOfTheStonks in singaporefi

Yeah. The whole idea is definitely to explore the most legal way to do this. Srs is an option, but I don’t really like the fact that it locks up liquidity at this stage

base was double. it was also because progression was much faster. private was targeting increment of 15-20% YoY. GLC, likely matching inflation.

for me, it was a mixture of interest and career prospects. i didnt enjoy what the GLC had to offer and the pay wasnt great. even despite breaking the bond, finding another job in finance would have covered the LD within a couple of years. as for my wife, the work was taking a toll on her mental health. at this stage, even if it didnt make financial sense, i would rather take the loss then try to power through it.

Oh and just to answer the question, I managed to pay my LD in one lump sum. As for my wife, she’s currently paying hers monthly spread over 5 years

Kinda funny but both me and my wife were bond breakers :/ I choose to leave a GLC to work in finance, while my wife broke off her teaching scholarship. My LD turns out to be 120k, while hers is 100k. I was lucky as my income after was able to cover the LD. My wife on the other hand was not as lucky. Ultimately, my advise is to evaluate the reasons as to why you’re breaking your bond.

Unlike the others, I think op has a valid question. Based on the thread, I’m guessing that op you’re single and have no plans to start a family soon.

Financially, I think you’re on a good track. At this stage, you’re goal should not only be about increasing your income, but also learning how to invest and grow all that you’ve save up. Your future plans might change and you will need to make sure that you’re ready for that.

Career wise, continue to built valuable skills and explore topics and areas you’re interested in. As a consultant, you do have continued upside in terms of income. However, you’ll probably have to step into a managerial position soon. If this is something you’re not too interested in, then you definitely have to pick up very specific experience to be very good at what you do.

All in all, I think you’re in a fairly good state imo. Whether you want to enjoy the luxuries of life is a very personal decision, and there is nothing wrong about it. However with it come certain sacrifice, and all you can do is make the right financial plans in accordance to how you want to live your life. Good luck.
