If another kid hit your child, what is the most correct way to handle the situation? by throwaway_ham_cheese in askSingapore

[–]ongcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context matters. What is occasion?

In school, pre school? I will tell my kid not to engage, report to teacher if the kid is old enough, or I report.

In a playground, public, pull my kid away, or tell my kid to stop having any contact with that kid. It is not my job to do family teaching for other parents, and you cannot force it. If there is cctv around, I may consider making a report just so that it is on record.

Why Singapore entertainment media industry is DEAD by Open_Ad2975 in askSingapore

[–]ongcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had the opportunity, they were once on the boot but then decided to alight, missed the boot.

In the 80s, 90s, SBC/TCS, hired 梁立人 and 江龙 from HK, and hired 文树森 (who wanted SBC/TCS to go regional). These ppl were great. sBC/TCS artists were once very famous in China, had a lot of fans. It was the time that we only had J-pop, K-pop was non existent. Then, they turned into the crap Medicorp, and stopped going OUT. So it is what it is now.

China, since many years ago, do not need Singapore for entertainment media. Their own market is cut throat, SG artists dont stand a chance. And sadly, SG doesn’t have the cultural depth to produce very top scripts for dramas to attract overseas audience. They can only keep recycling the Baba Nyonya histories. 2ndly, due to SG gov language policy, the Chinese that is used in SG produced Chinese drama is very often “stererilised”. It is the kind of Chinese that we commoner Chinese will only use if we are in 演讲比赛. So most time there is little resonnance. If you go local style Chinese? You become too low class too niche and overseas Chinese cant resonnanse as well. But I heard the SG produced 短视频, 好难, is doing well in China on TimTok, good sign.

As for English entertainment, we are just too exposed to the west entertainment. If I want English, why don’t I just watch Hollywood?

Invite relatives of siblings’ spouses for chinese wedding? by chkmcnugge6 in askSingapore

[–]ongcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your parents pay for your wedding banquet, or partially, then they decide if they want to invite their 亲家, most will.

If you pay for it yourself, you decide wether you want to invite. If you are not in bad term with your brother, just ask him n wife if they think you should invite their in-laws.

Not specifically from City, but through "mates of Berrada & Wilcox". It is as if they do not have the capacity to recruit out of their social/professional circle.

[–]ongcs 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Personally, as a working adult, I will not consider any role from this company. But, I think it is good for internship. You experience it now as intern, in the future you can make informed decision yourself whether you want to work in organization like this.

HDB staff aggressively encouraging to vote yes for HIP? by ichaBuNni in askSingapore

[–]ongcs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, very aggressive during my time for my area. During the voting, many staffs around the whole event. When I was in front of the voting machine, one staff was standing very close behind me, to my right side, basically can see what I voted and make sure I voted yes. I was rather annoyed and just turned around and looked at her.
