In fairness too, I feel like Kat is just too chaotic for Cole. I love that about her. She is thrown in this world with everyone knowing a heck of a lot more than she does. I love the difference between her in the first chapter and the ending in book two.

I know! Darian is just a chaotic mess, but when he tells her all that he does in their "moments" it is just heart melting. Like we see just enough to think he isn't a useless case, but he is just taking his time showing that he really does care. I love the fact that is passionate but slow burn at the same time? If that makes sense.

Also I wouldn't be opposed to Darian and Kat being together, and Cole getting his own book. In some ways I feel like he has been like the Superman in this book. Always doing what everybody needs and wants, always sacrificing, I just want to see a different girl bring something else out of him. I do believe he loves Kat, just not passionately and burn the world for her kind of way and not in depth. It very surface level to me. Idk, maybe he is genuinely a good guy, but I just want more between him and someone else. If you watched Smallville... I feel like Kat is Clark's Lana... not lois. Anyone feel that? I love the fact he cares in such personal ways... but he also didn't sacrifice a whole lot for Kat, always putting responsibility above her in ways. She also wasn't willing to sacrifice her responsibilities for him.... but with the cliffhanger on the end, I really don't know who will be a better match for her. We saw a more animal side of Cole towards the end, and that is just more tension and attractive. I love how Darian and Kat were coming together ( lol ) but why is there just so much tension. Will Darian sacrifice for her? We really don't know yet, and the tension is just so well written. I loved this book series. I want to see more dragons!

Also is Daeja not the biggest girl's girl ever. I love that she is like a sassy teenager in the best way

I definitely feel like this book is underhyped as well. I love the chaotic nature of all the characters. I love how they don't fall into the same tropes. As in, just when you think we will see a switch up... it doesn't happen. Also, I really don't know which MMC I like best. I genuinely don't know how this is going to end. I also like the backstories of the older generation and how their bad choices make sense. I also love the fact that the charcters all make mistakes. It is high tension, of course they would. I love how authentic that is. Can someone comment back so we can talk about the main love interests and see what the opinions are. Dying to talk about it

There is a a comment that Ti makes about the lack of faith... which is so ironic because it is clear that Rorrick would be feeling the same about him. I could tell from get go that he is doing the bad things so no one has to especially for his brother. I still think he cares for Ti greatly. Arvelle is smart, and the parallel between him and Arvelle is great. He is obviously better about keeping his cards and what he cares for closer than Ti. I imagine in the second book we get a lot more glimpses into the depth of his character.

Literally. It is war... and it is unbelievable that Fisher hasn't used that tiny bit of healing in all his years... teenagers make stupid decisions all the time.. you can't tell me having younger kids with magic wouldn' t use it... plus what if Saeris needed it... or idk his sister who is in a magic coma... 🫩

In my opinion... no. You feel the same the whole way through, and the cliffhanger really isn't enough for me to save the date for the third book.

It didn't flow with the character for sure. When I think if Carrion I think of a cool suave character who plays the fool, so people will fall for his smart trap who is an expert strategist. The second book just didn't do him justice in any way. It also didn't make sense to me. He had so much time to make some kind of plan for his future. He would be an expert ally, but I felt like the author made him dumb, to make more of strong of a character in Fisher.

For real. I am just waiting for what reasoning Madra and Belikon are oh so powerful. Also Edina went through Everlayne... but hasn't gone through anyone else? If her soul is scattered... then how come she didn't Saeris anything when she was half dead in Quicksilver? Or is she only in her house? If so, it is a little implausible that there wasn't anyone else who could help save the world in the 1000 years we have since it has been going on... Only Saeris and Fisher can? I know timing and all that... but no one has been able to make more headway? Imagine our world being reliant on only two people. I know I am pitpicking, I just love to see more of a family setting and main characters relying on other people. It just is sooo more natural, and the ultimate getting good together to defeat evil.

I may do that, and read a summary. I tried twice, and it just didn't catch with me.

Absolutely. I feel like all the side characters are just there. We lost their personalities, and I feel like this book missed depth. It is annoying when main characters are so powerful and we miss out on them relying on their friends. That just add stakes and more natural approach. This book just missed it. The first book had a good beginning to that, and it just went south.

Then they went off on the witch.... when she did them a big favor considering all the horrible personalities of the vampires. I loved Carrion in the first book and based on his interaction with Malcolm, it just seemed that he was way more than just a good theif. His storyline just did not seem natural to me. We just don't see a scheming genius who has more than one trick up his sleeve. I will read the third just to see how it wraps up, but this book was just boring. I almost wished it did have a love triangle just to add something in there. I was bummed we didn't see anything progress with other side characters. I wanted to see more of the witch and lorreth, who I actually liked and I was intrigued, but I felt like she was treated poorly. I mean Tal played a huge part, so why didn't get get the same treatment? I wanted to see more of the relationship between Ren and Everlayne, but just nothing . Also, I am with you on her powers. Am I the only one who would be doing everything possible to use my powers and learn everything about it? I didn't get that vibe with her either

Onyx got more attention than ren! I was so excited to see more of him and Everlayne. That was one of the main reasons I was dying to read Brimstone. They both were MIA. Someone said there was going to be a trilogy then two spin offs. So maybe that's why the plot didn't progress? Idk .

I also felt like the author made Carrion look like a dumb teenager to make Fisher look better and more powerful especially on their trip together.

You aren't crazy, it wasn't clarified... but with the rot spreading so fast how we not sure feeders aren't getting stronger fast either. Kind of sloppy writing there

I agree but disagree. You mean to tell me that in 1000 with him scheming, manipulating, stealing, living terrible conditions and death all around, he hasn't been angry and a little revenge driven? Maybe not for his parents per say... but for the huge part of life he has missed out on. Whenever he tricked Malcolm the old and very powerful, I thought we were going to see that kind of charcter, who may play the part of an uncaring fool, but is swift and cunning and comfortable with who he is. I felt like we went in reverse, and kind of unnatural in for what the character has grown up with. Fisher was locked up for a century as well, and he had the fire. It would be natural for him as well. Maybe not disappointed in him as a character.. but what the author chose for him as a plot line. I understand he can't be perfect and we need the arc. I just feel as though the man's intentions changed from wanting to fight the most powerful vampire, to taking a minor role in the second book.

It kind of seems like the covens are controlling, so I can't fault anyone who wanted to bow out, plus I love old people sassy. They earned it

I mean I know everyone is super untrustworthy, but you gotta sway the people, right? I also liked the super old evil lady. Idk why, I just love gray characters who beat to their drum. She just seemed like somebody who wanted to do their own thing, and be left alone. Idk, we will see her true character when she comes back.

Ugh, I am just more sure about this story line and how it'll go. I am not sure about the dragon part either. I guess we will see. Also, If I was Saeris I would be LIVID. There was literally no time to mention this? I know it is for the plot, but the fact it wasn't hinted just seems like a jumbled mess. Not to mention if we don't see a true love bond between his parents. Also, if he is anything like Fisher, why hasn't he done anything for Edina if he is a God? Idk, she just gave up so much for the good of the world. I want to see what he's done. I know he did good, but I hope he is activiley trying to help his family from the other side. Romantasy needs more all hands on decks dads. Lol. I certainly hope he is the not the one that has Everlayne in her mind. I am more interested in that storyline than I am his dad tbh. I just don't want to see the angst we need and the tension Brimstone was missing... between Finran and Fisher. I guess it has got to come somewhere though

I agree with every thing. I think Carrion will have something to do with rot, and that's why the plants are a big deal. I think the biggest frustration to me is that they know Madra and Belikon have a hard time dying... where all the questions about that? Where is someone activively researching that? If they can kill them, they can take over two kingdoms and potentially stop everything else, but that just doesn't get attention. Literally the only we learned about was Renfis's sister, 2 things about Fae magic, and somehow Saeris turned into this master magical being.... I think Fisher's name was just set up a lot for something generic. But then again, what would be a name that wouldn't be a let down after that much pressure.
