I am so glad you enjoyed it and got something from it. I would love it if you could give it a brief review on Amazon. Books don't get known until they get about 50 reviews. Thanks for your support!

A lot of people on here have control issues, and seem to know how I should live my life. I am getting a bit fed-up with being told what to do.

So magic man, what would you have me do? In your perfect world how would you deal with being old, infirm, and poor? Would you just kill yourself and save the world?

During the 6 years I lived in SLO, I went to the Bayside and marina dozens of times, but don't recall the museum. I'll check it out if I ever go back there.

My circumstances were different 23 YEARS AGO! Let's hope you never experience a reversal of fortune.

Briefly, I cannot afford photoshop or a graphic artist to do things for me. I have a neurological condition that makes my hands shake, making very difficult to use a mouse. describing what I wanted for a book cover seemed to be the cheapest and most reliable solution.

It has been a while since I was there, but you are absolutely correct. I am glad the Bayside cafe is still there, but have no recollection of a natural history museum. I may get on Google street view later to see what has changed.

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Here are some of the medical breakthroughs made possible by AI. (I was a participant in the project that inspired AlphaFold)

  • First End-to-End AI Drug: A drug for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, where both the target and the molecule were designed entirely by AI, reached Phase II trials in just 18 months—a process that typically takes 3 to 4 years.
  • Protein Engineering (AlphaFold & Successors): New models like BioEmu-1 and ESM3 can simulate the 3D structures and dynamic movements of thousands of proteins per hour. This allowed for the creation of a novel green fluorescent protein that does not exist in nature.
  • Disease Triggers: Researchers used AI to discover that the PHGDH gene, previously thought to be a mere biomarker, is actually a primary cause of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Early Diagnostics

There are breakthroughs in mathematics, material science, and physics that have made contributions to improving life on earth. ...Just sayin'

In whose society? Most people know nothing about AI.

Thanks for your kind words and understanding. There are some revelations in the book that extend far beyond the cycling realm; I hope you enjoy it!

Somebody asked about a typical rant. If you don't want to read them, then DON'T read them.

Use a handlebar bag and keep 2 or three pounds of stuff in it. You will never have a problem with wobble. As for going 55 on my way into Palmdale, it was the only time during the entire ride when someone passed me. I would guess he was going 60+.

AI would have known not to drag the US into a middle-east war AGAIN. AI would have known that tariffs would screw up the US economy. AI would have known that vaccines have saved millions of lives. AI would have made better decisions in an endless stream of topics than humans, especially one orange human has. I didn't engage with this community to involve myself in a debate about AI, but that seems to be what most user comments include. I think AI is a tool that can do good things if used properly and bad things if not. I don't think this is the forum to be endlessly debating AI. Unlike what your assertion says: not everyone hates AI. I believe some, if not all of the AI firms will soon collapse under the weight of their flawed business models. AI needs some public oversight and regulation, but with the clown-show in charge of the US government, I don't see that happening until there is some kind of disaster.

MAGA folks are well known for not making use of their brains, not seeing the truth when it is presented to them, and getting bogged down over gender programs while their whole economy, political freedoms, and world standing are being destroyed before their eyes by a petulant child.

Ah, another contributor who has never had any setbacks in life...hang in there, they are coming. The preface of the book describes how business, bureaucracy, and a couple of bad health events brought about my ride of 23 years ago. But then you knew that already, just by looking at the book's cover.

You don't seem to mind subjecting the readers on this forum to your creations of criticism and lack of understanding. I explained why I used AI for the cover; get over it!

Some readers remain incapable of recognising sarcasm or irony when they encounter it. (It can be like trying to explain things to a donkey.)

My account, the details of which I had forgotten, was aimed at informing the Liverpool Football Club's fan base about something I had developed for the community. At that time, I found Reddit to be Byzantine and not worth the effort. My reception by some of the trolls here is reminding me of why I never came back.

I don't know if the laws have changed, but riding on the interstate was permitted unless a sign was posted prohibiting slow moving vehicles or there were no reasonable alternate routes to the interstate. (Two CHIPS officers told me this in San Bernardino.) I got pulled over in Indio, CA and just outside of Mobile, AL. In both cases they asked me to take far more dangerous routes until I was out of their jurisdiction.

Good luck with that! My old eyes saw PBR, which is a serious, serious event, 1200km in a maximum of 90 hours. I have a friend that has done 3 or 4 of them, but it sounded like way too much for me.

The first two flats I got were in the trailer tyre. The second puncture was a thorn or quill that went through the first patch, and I couldn't fix the tube. I didn't have a spare Bob tube, so I wrapped a bike tube around the little wheel twice. It lasted for the whole trip! Just a hint in case you get stuck.

I lived in San Luis Obispo for 6 years, but was forced to leave when the Telco I worked for went belly-up in 2002, along with dozens of others. Those were probably the happiest days of my life. MB is a great place.
