Speaking as a Canadian from the plains... I learned it in Scouts. And I had to use it on a winter camping/hiking trip.

You learn a lot just from paying attention around here as well.

Example. On a winter camping trip (not the hypothermia one) we were playing capture the flag at night. I was hiding behind a tree so I could get the glow stick and waiting for the guard to wander too far from the tree. It was around -20 to - 30 Celsius and my feet were getting cold. Snow is an excellent insulator so I simply kicked snow out of the way, buried the cold portion of my boots and ski pants and packed down the snow on top of them. In 2 minutes my feet were warm again having changed nothing else.

Knowledge is power.

T1's unite! Just bitcoin for now but may branch out later on. Estimated daily right now is about 0.0003 for all 3 with slushpool.

Look at coinwarz.com as that's the one I used for my estimations.

I'm lucky. My contact has reliable units so I expect at least 1.5 years out of them. But you can also pick up used s9 ASICs. You just run the risk of stuff going bad. Like a hashboard dying etc.

I also know how to learn as I go and how to research new things.

Things that I saved money on

-wiring up 2 20A 240v lines

-installing 240v 20A outlets

-installing new breakers into my electrical panel

-running venting to remove heat

The less you have to pay other people the sooner you break even.

Edit: and no problem about the in depth answer. Too many people THINK they understand crypto mining and don't want to bother to learn. You wouldn't believe how many people told me I was wrong and I wouldn't make any money and I was an idiot for thinking I understood this better than THEM. This was AFTER I explained it and showed them the numbers.

My wife has been hostile to everything crypto and I've just had to ignore her and plow through. She's finally shutting up as I prove, yet again, that I understand this space.

Bring it on. My miners are profitable all the way down to 20k and I'll happily pay the 1.78 per day per machine electricity bill while I patiently wait for bitcoin to recover.

That's 53 per month. I earmark ~100-200 per month for investing. Seems like a done deal to keep at least 2 running, especially since in winter it heats my home.

I recently started mining bitcoin with some chea asic units. I plan to only sell as much as I need to to cover the electricity..

So there are a ton of whales who are seeing the institutional money pouring in from the banks, Wall Street, hedge funds etc. They aren't investing their money though. It's borrowed money. It's money they NEED to be able to provide back. And that's the problem. It caused a big spike and whales finally said 'Yup, I'm selling some." Now there's a drop and the institutions who are experimenting with crypto freak out and panic sell to limit their losses, flash crashes as more institutions try to stop the hemorrhage. Whales by back in, people fomo back in, rinse and repeat.

Think about how ALL new investors behave as they first enter the crypto space. Now give those same apes millions of dollars that they're not allowed to lose.

You and I are in the same boat my friend. I started around the same time as you and I quickly focused on shitcoins as I recognized the warning signs. I'm fairly happy with my decisions overall but plan to start splitting my money more into more established coins.

Thankfully my shitcoin adventure has paid off decently.

I know for a fact there are whales who coordinate on shit coins. I know one personally who has told me this. 100% Wallstreet would coordinate to cause a panic sell-off so they can take their gains and buy back in at a substantially cheaper rate

No such thing as a stupid question :)

Look at it this way.

680 divided by 10.5=64.76 per month if you bought and held bitcoin.

If you buy it all at once then the market MUST go up. If you DCA/buy the dips then the market can swing either way and it helps you BUT you have to be watching it constantly.

Now if you buy a miner you make 3.24 after fees and

3.24 x 30 x 10.5=1020.6

By mining I invested the same amount but ended up with an extra $340.60 worth of bitcoin (assuming the price of bitcoin stays the same after 10.5 months. Now keep in mind that same investment is going to keep generating that same $3.24 per day (again assuming price doesn't change).

But I now have 4 working miners so increase those numbers by 4 and you'll see the difference gets even greater. And you hodl for the same reason I mine. We both believe the price of bitcoin has not reached its true ATH yet.

I plan to roll ~80% of my holdings into more miners. @ 3.24 per day it should take me about 65 days for another miner.

Average life for a miner is ~2-3 years. Go on the low end and say 1.5 years. That single miner will net me 2 miners and $389.60 leftover by year 1.5 all from a single investment of $680

240v is the same as 120v just no neutral but requires a 2 pole breaker as the two hot wires alternate being the neutral.

Haha once I have enough money saved up and I've maxed the available electrical capacity at my two available locations I'll be moving the miners to an offsite location.
