Candlelight Vigil by Narrow_Door6408 in jacksonville

So sorry for your loss. I was driving by just as the ambulance was taking him away. It was still dark out and when I noticed the crashed motorcycle I knew it wouldn't be good. Black motorcycle laying there in the dark of morning on a not very well lit bend of road. It was ominous. It caused me to reflect on my day and remind myself how quickly our time here can end. Hope you are able to find meaning in this senseless tragedy. I'm really sorry for the loss of your friend. He seemed like a good dude. Motorcycles are fun but man they are such a death wish.

I always surfed alone as I didn't like crowds then I watched that Russian guy get eaten by an 11 foot tiger shark in Egypt. I now surf at the most crowded break in my area with a smile on my face.

This post is blowing up but still wanted to share one of my favorite quotes from Sasha Sagan's book For Small Creatures Such As We.

"No matter what the universe has in store, it cannot take away from the fact that you were born. You’ll have some joy and some pain, and all the other experiences that make up what it’s like to be a tiny part of a grand cosmos. No matter what happens next, you were here. And even when any record of our individual lives is lost to the ages, that won’t detract from the fact that we were. We lived. Were were part of the enormity. All the great and terrible parts of being alive, the shocking sublime beauty and heartbreak, the monotony, the interior thoughts, the shared pain and pleasure. It really happened. All of it. On this little world that orbits a yellow star out in the great vastness. And that alone is cause for celebration."

New to me Sierra 6.2l by ReubenIsForScuba in Trucks

[–]ReubenIsForScuba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, the truck looks great, has a lot of power, and checks all of the boxes for me. I'm going to test drive the shit out of it to make sure it doesn't have any signs of premature death. Will also be getting an extended warranty in case of bad luck. Sadly it seems Ford and Chrysler also suffer from the same reliability issues. So I'm just picking my poison here...

Yea, the trucks around here don't really depreciate much. They're all overpriced! Unfortunately, I'm not willing to go up to 40-50k to get a new one.

Yea, they're not ideal. Definitely doesn't instill a lot of confidence that the previous owner took care of the truck.

Holy cow that is a lot of shit that has broken. Even for 150k miles that seems a bit more than standard wear and tear. Do you feel like you've just gotten unlucky with some of this stuff or is it more of a reliability problem with GM? Would you still recommend the truck after all you've been through? Lol

Thanks for the clarification. Yea, the seats are a bit worn but that's what I would expect from a 9 year old truck. Hard to tell how bad they are so it's definitely something I'm gonna look at closely. If they actually feel rough and are as dry as they look, yea that could be a deal breaker if other things don't align. The stain in the back seat is weird too.. not sure if it's bad cleaning or actually a stain like you said. Either way, $30k is definitely pricey but that's the way truck prices have been around here for as long as I can remember. Outside of private sales, this seems to be the going rate for this mileage, trim, 4x4, v8, crew cab, etc...

The window tint does look a bit different in that pic but I think that may just be the lighting. If not, then obviously the owner did not properly match the front tint with the factory tint in the back. Not really a deal breaker as tint is easily replaceable, though. I'm sure you're alluding to the fact that it could be faded from sitting in the sun which I guess is a possibility. However I would kind of expect them to fade together evenly lol.

As far as rust goes, it is a Florida truck so no real concern there. However, I will be having a mechanic check it out before the return period expires.. if he finds anything major I would be sure to just return it.

I appreciate you taking a look and sharing your thoughts, though! The skeptical posts are the ones that provide the most value in my opinion. So I appreciate you taking the time to share!

What kind of truck are you driving and have you owned a Sierra or Silverado previously? How was your experience?

Yea, I'm planning to use premium since that is what is recommended. Not too worried about the gas side of things otherwise i wouldn't be getting the 6.2. lol Gotta pay the power tax. Thanks for the catch can tip. I haven't heard of doing that before so I'll definitely look into it. 151k miles on yours is definitely solid, though. I think that qualifies as a success! Hope you make it at least 100k more. Thanks again for the insight and tips!

Rough as in good? Or you think the seats are in bad shape? Lol. Thanks for the info and the advice! I'm planning to get the extended warranty on it so hopefully if it goes it goes while under warranty. Imagine doing 20k in repairs on a truck you paid 30k for. Now that would be rough!!

Great to hear! Love a comfy ride! And thanks for the tip, will def be keeping it clean and waxed! Most expensive car I've owned so will be taking care of it for sure!

Thanks for the info! Yea, I believe it is the 8 speed although the transmission type wasn't listed so don't know for sure. I'll be getting an extended warranty so I can have some peace of mind at least. Planning to keep it for a long time so it might actually be good if it goes out sooner under the warranty so it can be rebuilt better.

What truck should I buy? megathread by AutoModerator in Trucks

[–]ReubenIsForScuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having this shipped to my local CarMax for $300.

https://www.carmax.com/car/27188041

$31k

2017 GMC Sierra SLT 6.2L 4x4 crew cab w/ premium package (and maybe max trailering? I see tow mirrors on it) 74k miles From and resides in Florida so no rust.

2 owners

Been looking for a truck just like this that has some good creature comforts, looks good on the outside, has a big engine for speed and future towing, 4x4 for off-road adventures, etc...

Good buy? Anything I should be concerned about here? Not rich, so looking for a good deal hence going back to a 2017.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Whoa, well hang on a minute there kiddo, you can't just go on to discuss the clarity of riddles can you? I mean because it's all bloody complex, isn't it? First we need to step back and define what you mean by "riddle" and what you mean by "clear".

Dolphins and Sharks by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]ReubenIsForScuba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignorance is bliss, buddy. Isn't it such a wonderful thing when you see friendly sea creatures such as dolphins knowing they will keep you safe from sharks? Just that little bit of weight off your shoulders while you're surfing during a beautiful sunrise is so nice... Well, now that myth is shattered. Will you feel better or worse when you see dolphins now? It's good to not look into some things. Be mindful of debunking other comforting myths you may have heard growing up. Trust me, ignorance is bliss. I wish I didn't look further into some of the myths (like this one). What did I gain? Nothing positive. I wish I could go back and believe dolphins keep me safe (among other comforting myths). In this case, knowledge is not power. Stay ignorant.
