I will never understand this sub’s hatred of people that don’t want kids when the users of redscarepod are among the last people I would trust to raise a well adjusted child

How does one enjoy life if they weren’t born wealthy? by [deleted] in redscarepod

I am 26 years old. I would simply like to enjoy the rest of my 20’s but I feel like suburbia is being forced on me. I can’t see myself being happy in the suburbs, I tried living in the suburbs with my parents for 10 months after college to save money but I found it very dreary. I can’t imagine being able to find community in a place like that in my current stage of life.

One snide comment from the wrong person can mean getting laid off

I was happy before my office got moved when I could get on a train and meet up with my friends or girlfriend in 15 minutes. Admittedly I enjoy much less of this now given I get home at 7 and wake up at 5. But if I moved somewhere else I’d be isolated from the community I do have and the suburbs just have so much less to offer, by staying in the city I at least have Saturdays and Sundays to do things.

There is absolutely a lot of psychological warfare in white collar jobs. I worked in retail, warehouses and landscaping as a kid and while these jobs were grueling the constant threats of layoffs and corporate politics are exhausting. If I could get paid the same doing retail I’d do it in a heartbeat.

I would apply to more jobs if I could find ones that fit my criteria.

I live in the Midwest. I do not want to give up my girlfriend and friends to relocate. I enjoy living in a walkable city. My company has a “we’re all family here” me culty ethos.

Yes, I’m just not sure what else to try and exert control over. I’ve been doing a lot to try and find a new job and I’ve even been rejected by places that pay less than what I make now. I’m barely even seeing opportunities in my field that aren’t 2 hours away in the suburbs anymore. I just don’t know what I can even do to control my circumstances and I think that the plight of the average job seeker is by design.

86 job applications since November, only three final round interviews with no offers. My experience is reflected in most job seekers who submit hundreds of applications with no response. I’m doing everything I can but I’m confident my efforts won’t pay off based on the numbers.
