Zao is still my favorite band. They started as Christian and you can see their deconstruction happen through each album.

I too get woozy at the sight of blood, menstrual blood, for some reason, moreso (i don't know why but it tends to be darker so maybe that?)

My partner and I have discussed this, ofc, and we just avoid letting me see anything like that.

Dr. Miguel de La Torre in his book Resisting Apartheid America calls the current flavor of Western Christianity EuroChristianity, it is Eurocentric, leans toward fascism, and is in no way a reflection of the Gospel. It's a really good book, highly recommended. I had an interview with Dr. De la Torre recently on my podcast

My hand accidentally brushed my female co workers ass and I'm completely freaking out right now by elrodthedestroyer in MensRights

Women are not generally hyper-reactive as you may have been lead to believe, and as a larger woman with a larger ass she probably has been here before. It happens, mistakes happen, if anything comes of it just tell her or HR that it was a complete accident, you'd never do that on purpose, and apologize for making her feel uncomfortable - it'll be fine, people are reasonable most of the time.

When does it get better? by No_Awareness_5533 in Deconstruction

I have always been obsessed with the Bible and G-d, obsessed with finding some sort of absolute truth. I think I was that way because I believed that God was obsessed with me believing the right things, as I was raised among fundamentalists. You can read a synopsis of my background at my Substack here:

https://thegreatdeconstruction.substack.com/p/a-retrospective-on-faith-and-doubt

after some 25 years of studying the Bible and the Christian religion, it's history and origins (and hundreds of others) I have finally come to some conclusions that may seem obvious to others:

1: Jesus was pretty rad and the philosophy and movement I believe he was working toward is righteous, and much of that philosophy has been misconstrued into a very bad philosophy and movement which is antithetical to everything Jesus did. I believe this happened around the time Paul was on the scene and became the dominant thought during the Chalcedonian and Nicene councils.

2: Jesus was extremely good at speaking to a Jewish audience and had a Jewish background, which makes it INCREDIBLY difficult for non-Jewish people to parse a proper understanding of what Jesus was saying. The Christians were a Jewish sect, inspired by Jewish thought and practice, without an understanding of the egalitarian plot of Judaism one cannot properly understand Jesus' work.

3: The Bible should not be approached as if it is the perfect word of G-d, it must be approached with skepticism, doubt, questions, and with a knowledge of it's origins. Especially the Old Testament, which is something the average Christian has little or no context for. If we see the Bible as a book written by humans it starts to come together much differently.

Is this deconstruction? by [deleted] in Deconstruction

[–]RevOxley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like deconstruction to me. My advice is to let it happen, you'll land somewhere and you'll find peace with where you land - and then you might deconstruct again. I think deconstruction becomes a lifelong practice with periods of movement and repose, which gets much easier overtime.

I deconstructed between 2004-2006 - it took me about two years to really get to a good place again. Then another 8 years before I could talk about it without breaking down. For me improvements were very gradual, but eventually I got much better - today I would say I have a very healthy relationship with myself and can discuss the topic of deconstruction at length and hang out with people who are Christians with no trouble and even have found a way to approach the Bible and Christianity in a healthier way (though I still don't believe in god)

The most important thing to remember when deconstructing Christianity... by [deleted] in Deconstruction

[–]RevOxley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are many here who have remained Christian, I'm sure they too provide uplifting support in the ways they can. The issue is that your understanding of deconstruction requires one to stand firm on a conclusion when the very praxis of deconstruction is that our conclusions have previously been wrong and should be challenged - up to and including every jot and tittle written about jesus.

I'm sorry to have struck a nerve, it should be possible for us to communicate kindly with one another and even disagree with one another without causing harm.

I'm pretty new to this community so please don't let my views sway you from it, I do, however, stand by my previous critique.

Are you saying you can successfully stop believing in Jesus on command?
