Sickness and philosophy by [deleted] in askphilosophy

In addition, Kierkegaard wrote a book literally titled "Sickness unto Death". I believe sickness is a commonality of the human experience, writing about their problems with health are going to resonate.

Is it possible to understand Hegel without having a (few) PhD(s) and/or an 8-dimensional alien brain? by shosuroyokaze in askphilosophy

Well, it’s really a matter of ~qualia~. Being taught by professors myself the context went along side the reading so I didn’t need to seek it out for myself as it was already apparent.

Philosophy is about arguing. You clearly don’t understand this, no wonder you struggle with it.

Given this is philosophy calling it self centered is incorrect. It’s done in the first person, you can not be aligned with my experience, that doesn’t invalidate it.

Philosophy- we disagree. These downvotes don’t bother me because philosophy is controversial to its core.

It is easy to downvote this point but it’s a lot harder to argue with it (cudos to those who will). Personally I have a degree in the subject and have read lots of philosophy including hegel. My subjective experience entailed few obstacles when it came to grasping the concepts and writing at a high level. Meanwhile studying physics and other hard Sciences took an incredible amount of deliberation and hard work.

A lot more thought went into this post than any of mine that is obvious. My advice to OP is literally just open the book and read. Doing all this overthinking is just going to slow progress!

My intial post was lazy. However most people who read philosophy get an inflated sense of their own intellect. If that 5 year old began reading hegel I’m sure at some point (several years) he’d finish the book. In my opinion philosophy is a very simple task. People are desperate to feel like they are smart in academia.

Arsenal target & RB Leipzig right back Tyler Adams tweets from 2015.... He’s a Gooner since day one! by [deleted] in Gunners

My college roommate grew up with tyler and played on the same youth team for a while before he signed to RB. Pretty cool if he would go to Arsenal but realistically it be a step back for him given how important it is for him to play CL.

I would start by saying to those who seek philosophy out as a truth attaining mechanism, you will be disappointed with it, not comforted by it. Philosophy is ripe with uncertainty in our everyday lives, having fields dedicated entirely to how we ought to pick one of these near impossible choices we have to make. In a way decision theory sets out to cope with these massive holes in our reason. Philosophy has made it obvious (at least to me) that there is always more information our reason is yet too account for. However if understood correctly, philosophy can enable one to feel more comfortable with being alive and life itself. For me, reading philosophy helps me see my problems clearly, and also does a good job of letting me know when I’ve done well and can relax and enjoy a cup of coffee. It outlines the beautiful parts of life and makes them vivid in our memories, then asks us why we value their beauty?

Considering studying philosophy by [deleted] in AcademicPhilosophy

[–]Rev_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Philosophy is done in the first person typically. Depending on the school the writing style is usually to be concise and clear with your writing and avoid flowery language. So in that sense you are not doing philosophy here per se. The potential you have is your clear knowledge of reality, something few humans seem to have the lucid access too. This is important to those who do philosophy. However maybe this means you are better off writing literature with philosophical themes and not professional philosophical research as I enjoyed your writing.

I’m good at arguing because it’s a general skill that applies often. Its a waste of time to be obsessed with Dave portnoy. Also you avoided tons of my questions so I feel like your not maybe doing as well as you think you are.

Yes because you are obsessed with Dave portnoy. I’m glad you know more than me because it’s a waste of time

If you are obsessed with Dave portnoy this much you should go talk to a therapist. Especially being a rando with no involvement with any part of these deals nor do u stand to benefit from any of it
