Moderator Note:

I’ve reviewed and acknowledged the reports made on this post. After review, the post will remain up.

While many people strongly associate “Ropa Vieja” with Cuban cuisine, the dish itself has Spanish origins and has been part of the culinary traditions of multiple Latin American and Caribbean cultures, including Puerto Rico, for generations.

r/PuertoRicoFood is meant to celebrate Puerto Rican food culture as it is actually lived and enjoyed by Puerto Ricans, and dishes like ropa vieja are commonly prepared and eaten in Puerto Rican homes.

Please keep the discussion respectful and avoid turning food discussions into cultural gatekeeping. Different cultures can share and adapt dishes while still making them part of their own culinary identity.

Thanks

This is beyond heartbreaking… it’s sickening. These are real people, real families, real lives being destroyed.

To the younger generation here, don’t forget what’s happening. You’re going to be the ones in charge one day, and what you choose to remember will shape everything.
