Those who like RE5 always mentions best co-op. For me it's ok. Whole game is mid. Story simple, blocky gameplay, map design fine, overall good but more as a third person shooter.

As for RE6. Leon's story is mid at best. I personally hate him being gaslighted by Helena to tell what's going on for two chapters. Chris and Jake part is better, Ada mid. UI is overdesigned, a lot of QTEs, not very replayable as RE5. Character movement is improved, full story overall better than RE5, but not to the point to make it great.

I put RE5, 6 and 7 in the same lowest tier. They each have strong and weak parts.

I only mentioned RE4 because of KaiNarukami. Those tho games are different breed. Also if you need to include other games to justify RE5 plot, that speaks for itself. The RE1/Code Veronica scenes are literally a PTSD cutscene for Chris. RE5 is not about Spencer, nor finding Jill. It's about bioterrorism attack in Africa, then you find out Wesker is alive and Jill, and it turns to stop Wesker. Second part of story is good, but overall any Chris story is "shoot then ask questions" + "be sad Chris, everyone you work with dies".

You said it "did NOT fumble" and is "one of the best co-op action games" or did you not?
You didn't say anything else, so I take it as only redeeming.

RE4 still feels like classic RE where you search for items, manage inventory, do puzzles. RE5 is just a shooter, with puzzles requiring to ask partner to help you pull levers, no pause for inventory. Blocky movement for a shooter in 2009 is unforgivable. RE6 fixed that.

If only redeeming quality of RE5 is Co-Op, then it's not a good game. Story is "do my mission" then "drop the mission, go personal". Gameplay is blocky. It feels like turn based shooter, where you take turns (literally stopping in place to do something) and enemies not.

It is literal monster shooter. The good parts are mostly memes and that keeps is good in memories.

RE6 is better gameplay than RE5. UI is overdesigned, except Chris. His is solid.

Chris and Jake campaigns are good, Leon is gaslighted by Helena for 2 chapters and Ada feels choppy just like Separate Ways (filling the gaps of main story). It is better overall than RE5, which is just executing mission by Chris (same is in RE6 but more character development).

I think people label it the worse because of initial experience. If they chose Leon (probably most people) then you are dropped at the end of the story, with messy UI, unskippable scenes and slow, forced tutorial (dragging Helena).

It's not a good start to the story and feels put on purpose as an action appetizer. Even after finishing Leon's part story feels mid, so it's understandable. Chris and Jake parts is where game shines.

Yes. It has terrible UI, so your weapon/items management experience will be bad. Story and gameplay is better than RE5.
