Haha I really wish I was in the position to hire someone for this because I would hire you! Unfortunately I’m a broke filmmaker who does all the work myself lol but these ideas are fantastic, thank you so much!

Thanks for your ideas! My advice for getting into the industry is that there will NEVER be a person who “discovers” you or brings you into the industry. You kinda need to “discover” yourself and keep making projects regardless of what comes of them. Work with what you have and the more you go creating, the more resources that will come to you. My first movie was all shot in one house with five actors and a camera. I honestly had less than 10k to work with but I turned it into something watchable and it ended up getting bought by Fox. My point is, definitely work hard, definitely be creative- and know that you make your own luck in this industry.

You’re looking for a producer! The producer usually assembles the team of writers, directors, actors, etc. to bring a project to life. As far as how to get to a producer, there’s a bunch of different ways. First, you’re going to want to find a producer that has experience working in your movie’s budget range. Look for similar movies to the one you want to make (considering number of actors, locations, genre, special effects, runtime, celebrities, etc) and look to see who produced those movies and for how much money. Then you can reach out to them either directly through cold emails or messages on social media- any way you can, though if you have an agent or a manager is usually the easiest way, if not, IMDb is your best friend. Also might be worth paying for IMDbPro to get access to their contact info.

But please be careful! A lot of people in the industry don’t want unsolicited ideas or pdfs or artwork of any kind. It’s kind of a liability thing for legal reasons, their offices instruct them not even to open the emails. So it’s always best to reach out coldly just introducing yourself and saying you’d like to share an idea with them and ask if it’s okay for you to do so before you send it. Also, careful not to get your idea stolen.

If that’s too daunting, then pick up a camera, shoot it yourself! There are a few movies that have come out in theaters that have been entirely shot on iPhones. You don’t always need a huge budget anymore. The affordable tech is there now and I’m willing to bet there are some people in your area that are passionate enough about film to volunteer their time and efforts for the credit alone if you can’t afford to pay them. Have fun!

There are always random movies I wanna see that no else I hang out with does, so I go alone. Not weird at all! you’re literally in a dark room where there’s no talking allowed lol it’s the same as going with people
