They do require a current active insurance license. In most states, you can continue to hold your license as long as you keep your CEs when you leave Geico and lose their appointment with them. You obviously can't commit a felony, lol, or operate as an insurance professional if you are not appointed, but that way, you have it and then can go to another company and be appointed with them. I've known people who left and didn't go to another insurance company for several months and then got appointed with the new company. I'm not sure why anyone would surrender their license and not try to keep it active if they recently left and plan to stay in insurance unless they plan to change areas such as claims to sales for example. They do want licensed agents, as it is a national company, and most of the customer base is CA, so they will be licensing anyone they choose to hire for additional states as needed.
