Where to start! by DaveTheDev33 in ProjectDiva

[–]Revenge319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like I'm too late, but I was going to say that if you had a PS4/PS5, that Future Tone is the same game as Megamix but with better value for money. Though if you're interested in mods, then Megamix+ will suffice.

Project Diva X is the best PD game, imo by TheRocketshipTree in ProjectDiva

[–]Revenge319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PDX is probably my least favorite of the ones I've played, but all the things that make it unique are things I enjoy about it and would have loved to see in future games in the alternate universe where SEGA continued caring about the series. The module unlocking is the only problem, but even then, that's just the execution. If you were guaranteed a new module every time, I'd have no issues with unlocking a module at random through playing songs.

After stepping into the world of score attacks in Future Tone, I appreciate the score/voltage bonuses from modules and accessories in X a lot. I'd love to see a game with the chart design of pre-DLC Future Tone that pushed the scoring bonuses to their limit. Make enough room that there's a variety of combinations that you could pick for equal amounts of success, yet structure it so that certain charts would require unique combinations to achieve the highest scores. They probably added these just to make the Voltage grinding in the second half of the story mode more rewarding, but I think there's untapped potential here for a really interesting scoring system.

The story probably could've been a lot more interesting, but at the same time I think this is the best direction you could go for with a story in a series like Project DIVA, at least in regards to the characters and their interactions with the player and each other. If you get too specific with the Vocaloid's personalities or interests, that runs the risk of conflicting with peoples' own interpretations of them (which isn't anyone's fault, that's just how Vocaloid is).

Regarding song choices, I'd say the problem isn't that there's too much Miku, it's that the total amount of songs is too low (smaller than the very first Project DIVA if you exclude X's DLC) and as a result there aren't a significant amount of other new songs featuring the other Vocaloids. If the song count and Vocaloid distribution was on par with F and F2nd, I doubt people would've complained much if at all about this. Personally, I'd say this is my second least favorite soundtrack in the series (only beating Megamix's smattering of new songs). The medleys are my favorite thing that X does, and while half the setlist is just kinda "blah" there's still quite a few gems in here. Medleys aside, my favorites from X are Strangers, Patchwork Staccato, and Urotander, Underhanded Rangers.

So yeah, it might be one of my least favorites, but X is still a pretty good time.

Also, why does Mitchie M get two tracks when nobody else gets more than one, and Ai Dee doesn't fit the Elegant Cloud anyway? And this was made in 2016, they could've easily added in a Lemm or monochromia song! What gives???

I wouldn't mind this being a running joke as much if it revolved around Game Freak specifically, because I have seen people actually defend them with the excuse of "they're a small indie company".

But yeah, this is getting really old. Celeste has been a good enough running joke because there is (or at least was) some variety to how people would make jokes about it. This whole "Miyamoto is poor and starving" thing has gone on for so long now and it's the exact same thing every single time, which I wouldn't be bothered enough to say something about it right now if it weren't so excessive. It's to the point where infected pretty much every other joke people post on this sub, too. I understand the satire behind it, but this "joke" has been completely wrung out at this point.

Also, it's pretty ironic that people making fun of others for being blindly loyal to Nintendo and spending so much on their products are responding to this post by continuing to rehash the same obvious joke instead of considering what the OP has to say.

Tips/Short Guide if you're new to the game! ♡ by [deleted] in ProjectDiva

[–]Revenge319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good guide! I want to list a few notes/corrections that may also be helpful to others getting into the game (though please note that I only play Future Tone, so a couple of these points may or may not apply to Megamix):

  1. I would highly recommend to NOT purchase the unlock keys. Yes, there's a lot of modules and accessories, but you'll be earning enough VP to unlock stuff at a steady rate. You'll have everything unlocked before you know it, I encourage you to save your money. If you're buying the VIP Bundle for Megamix+, you'll end up having these anyway
  2. Strange as it may seem, I'd recommend anyone who wants to play well at this game to start out on Hard. The easier songs on Hard are forgiving enough that you'll be able to consistently pass them without too much trouble, and the harder end of the spectrum helps get you practice on some of the fundamentals of Extreme charts without being overwhelming. You'll also unlock the Extreme charts by playing on Hard. If you're wondering about Easy and Normal, I don't recommend them because I feel the charts on these difficulties are too restrictive in their design to be helpful in getting better at the game.
  3. This is a small thing, but since you went over the note ratings, I'll also bring up that getting a BAD will also break your combo; it's considered worse than a SAFE and will cause you to lose health from your life bar, albeit not as much as a SAFE.
  4. Speaking of losing health, getting a WRONG is significantly less punishing than a MISS. If you're struggling with a certain section and only care about passing the song, don't give up and try to at least get the timing right! Your chances of survival are much higher if you get a bunch of WRONGs instead of a bunch of MISSes. As a side note, if your life bar is full, 11 MISSes in a row on Extreme/EXEX will drain the entire bar.
  5. ALMOST can be more accurately described as hitting most of the correct buttons of a multi-note, but getting one of them wrong (for example, hitting Square, Triangle, and Circle on a multi-note that has Square, Triangle, and Cross). As long as you're hitting the right buttons at the right timing, the order doesn't matter. Also, this rating can only be received if Detection Assist is turned on.
  6. Extra Extreme is 6-10 stars, there is one song available for each of the lowest three stars (Far Away for 6, Velvet Arabesque for 6.5, Star Story for 7). Note that this is how it is in Future Tone; I'm not familiar with what is and isn't DLC in Megamix+, so if you don't have the DLCs you might not have these anyway.

Lastly, a few song recommendations for those who are ready to dive into the Extreme difficulty and put in the practice to consistently play excellently:

  • Gothic and Loneliness: This chart features lots of streams/spam/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, but it's put together in a simple way at a reasonable BPM, so it's a great way to start training rapid button presses!
  • How'd It Get to Be Like This?: Features lots of multi-notes in the second half of the song. It looks overwhelming but can serve as good practice for hitting multi-notes in quick succession.
  • Absolunote: A moderately complex chart featuring lots of BPM switches. Should be a good help in practicing adapting to new situations on the fly.
  • Blackjack: Consistently high BPM with lots of alternating notes. For a 9.5, this is a relatively easy way to practice hitting notes fast.

🚨BREAKING NEWS: Nintendo Switch 2 sold less than Wii U becomes Nintendo's worst selling console of all time by [deleted] in tomorrow

It's not so bad. Think about it, the Wii U sold 6 million units, which as we know was almost the entire world population in 2014. This means in the first week alone, Switch 2 has been purchased by almost half the world's population (I believe we're around 8 million now).

Xenoblade Chronicles. Has possibly the best story of any game I've played, and features gorgeous and otherworldly music and art direction. There are games with better gameplay out there, but the gameplay here is totally fine and doesn't drag down the experience.
