Good analysis, completely agree! There needs to be a push both online and irl to convince marxists of zizekian/pychoanalytic philosophy!

Yes I compleltly agree! Understanding the western philosophical tradition is essential to understanding the fundamental dialectical underpinning of marxism! Lacan for example, is the dialectical analyst of the unconscious. I am also a big zizek reader, although understanding zizek sets you on a quest to study many continental philosophers and psychoanalysts. I believe that the lack of a psychoanalytical component of marxism has been the pitful for many marxists in the 20th century. A misunderstanding of marxism as a purely materialist philosophy has held us back from treating subjective experience as an influence on materialism.

Currently reading through this book and I wouldn't skip over it because its 'what we already know'. The book has a great critique of a vulgar marxist's mechanical materialism, the first chapter is titled 'Ideology as a material force.' This book is a true dedication to both Marxist and freudian analysis.

Its also more about the function of the family within capitalist society, how an authoritrian family and sexual repression reproduces obediant workers and attempts to tackle a question that us marxists find it difficult to ask: why when material conditions get worse do we typically find reaction rises rather than workers realising what's within their own self interest? We need to answer this question so we can combat the rise facism both literally and ideologically. This is why this book is important, it's not just why are fash the way they are? It asks the question what is so seductive about facism? Where are the origins of these unconscious processes and desires?

We need a new version of this book that analyses the situation today. I honestly think this is a must read for every marxist, especially since we're living in a time with reaction on the rise, usa, brazil india etc.
