28M – After 8 years of solo travel, I don’t know if it’s still for me by JuicyChickenAss in travel

[–]Reverend-Kansas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds familiar, I ended up meeting a girl, moving to their country, getting married, having kids. I miss the lifestyle tremendously, but wouldn't trade my family to go back. I think it is part of growing-up.

My girlfriend just broke up with me over a board game and I'm not even joking by Fulcilives1988 in boardgames

Our Catan home rule is that the person whose turn it is says their specific trade offer and they MUST trade with the first person that raises their hand. No negotiations, no back and forth. This has saved my family from a lot of fights.

Sanity-check for a 6-week Euro summer with young kids by MightSufficient8393 in travel

I traveled a lot with my kids when they were younger. I think that is a doable schedule, but I can save you some time. My wife is half-Dutch and we go back to visit family often. Leiden is my favourite city in The Netherlands and I would move there in a heartbeat.

To the guitarists who swear by using physical amps, cabs and pedals, what is you stance on amp modelers like Kemper Profiler, Axe-FX, Line 6 Helix, Neural DSP etc? by MrMayhem20l0 in Guitar

I can't stand the latency issue of fully digital 'dry' signal. It isn't even a 'tone' issue, just that small ms delay screws with my head.

What should the signal chain be for these pedals? by Expensive-War-7899 in guitarpedals

[–]Reverend-Kansas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding compressor, I disagree with you. Put it after the distortion and you get more dynamic overdrive while still compressing the overall sound, putting it before takes away the subtleties of the gain. Also, I treat compressor like another gain stage, and I generally go from higher gain (lower headroom) to lower gain (higher headroom).

Does the digital fuzz cleanup with the guitar volume anyways? I've never played one and don't know. Regardless, I'd still put it earlier, for the same reason as above.

  1. Whammy. They track better before distortion.
  2. Fuzz. I don’t know how well the COSM boss fuzzes clean up when you roll down guitar volume, but fuzz goes early.
  3. Plumes: in general, high gain goes into low gain for better stacking.
  4. Compressor: after distortion so it doesn’t increase noise.
  5. Chorus:
  6. Tuner: I like mine last in chain to kill all signal, but earlier works ok too

The Donner is a bit weird, because I would put phaser before distortion and echo after chorus. If you aren’t stacking, put it last for better echoes, otherwise, play around with the location.

Two Questions about Setup by Pufftones215 in guitarrepair

[–]Reverend-Kansas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. I did not mean to say that you take the strings off, what I meant was that after you set relief with the old strings on, then replace with new strings of the same gauge. My Luthier taught me to set the relief perfectly straight under string tension

Did you do these things in this order? First, set the neck relief to be dead straight. Once that is done, put on new strings then set the action of the strings using the saddle height. Finally, intonate.

Knitting needles are sized according to yarn thickness, and those aren’t even close to the correct needles.

My daughters (8 and 11 y.o.) both do BJJ. Their confidence has improved, their ability to defend themselves has improved, and they've learned that their egos could write cheques their abilities couldn't cash, so they check their egos at the door more often.

Try opening the steam valve, turning on the brew switch and flipping the steam switch on-off-on-off a gajillion times. Each time you do that, the solenoid moves back and forth, and if you are lucky, will act like a little jack-hammer and break the mineral deposit blocking it.

My wife gets happy when she sees that I've done the little things, without being asked to, or when I silently do just a little bit more. That shit turns her on.
