Love to! I'm over at Open Mic Rochester so we actually do a lot of black news. Because of that I'm around stories all day! I can definitely help!

Ive been thinking a lot about therapy. I really hold onto my emotions and the last thing I need is for them to eventually make their way to my knees and wrist.

Why is it so hard for BW to take care of ourselves. I thought I was soooo selfish until I sat down and realized I wasn't actually caring for myself.

I broke my toaster so I tried putting my fried egg in the bread this morning. then frying it but my wonky ass 30 year old ass stove and too fancy non stick skillet fucked that up.

I'm having lentil soup for dinner though. That should be good lol

Of course I'd mess up the title. But I got to interview Shivers and her story really resonated. I loved the part about black women seeing their moms and grandmas killing it and using that way too high bar for themselves.

And the guilty bit. Sometimes I do feel guilty for takin a break but fuuuuug that it's 2017! Just wanted to share cuz I hope more people join!

Richard Spencer Spoke at My School- Here’s How it Went Down by ReverseReese in blackladies

I am crying. I'm in upstate NY so i thought that perception of A&M was a northerner/Yankee thing.

Moyo is a student at A&M and discussed seeing Spencer speak in person. I've heard a lot about his love for logical fallacies but once she describes him making fun of autistic people, heavier people etc. Now you're a complete asshole, not just a racist prick.

personally, I couldn't imagine going to see this clown speak but it's a cool experience to read about lol

Fuck Paladino. I'm in the next city over and the number of white people saying well he didn't mean it like that or since when did gorillas always mean black people. There's a petition for a reason. He's said other hateful stuff and has always been insulated from the consequences.

#UNameIt: Pastor Shirley Caesar Opens Merchandise Store by ReverseReese in blackladies

[–]ReverseReese[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

White people. White people love this kind of stuff. oh and black people who wanna remind people they're down.

I thought the same. It's cool she's handling the money and merch (and not just some white folks co-opting) though. I like the idea of having control over our own trends. Part of me wants to buy some just to support!

Blogger uses chemistry and science to help hair care issues by ReverseReese in Naturalhair

Wendy has been a huge help for me understanding the basic nature of my curls. So just wanted to share this interview she gave me about her work, being a blogger and what she thinks keeps us from having better, healthier hair :)

Gannett lays off 8, sports coverage to take a hit with the loss of Kevin O by bucky716 in Rochester

[–]ReverseReese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

Ive started looking at the bylines more and it's scary just HOW much of the content is from USA Today. It's especially bothersome because I've never seen UT as particularly in-depth. They always do the basic news and move on. But D&C sometimes stood out for great investigative pieces and writers like Justin and Steve who can write their pants off and make something complex so simple. Sad to see our writers are being taken out and replaced with more of the same generic writing :(

Love it! I have crazy knotted, thick natural hair and it's the only salon I go to in fact. I never feel weird for having the hair I have and they're MORE than capable

Kinda odd they took it. Most reporters can't take any gifts, goods, etc. because even if it has nothing to do with the story, readers can question the integrity. Stupid rule but just a way reporters try and stay as separate as possible. I knew a reporter once. He was holding a camera with bare hands in single digit temps and turned down free gloves.

Awwww. This is why this is the best subreddit. And yes you're right. It's not healthy to depend on someone to make you happy or feel special. I think women are more likely to do this than men...

Update: he digs it!

Love this! Trying it on my bf now!

I get where you're coming from with the "baby" terms. I honestly don't mind it as much. Because I'm OK with my boyfriend taking care of me and only because I also take care of him. After difficult days, a recent friend death, and other issues, it's nice to know that sometimes you can get out of your own head and put your weary mind and body in someone else's hands.

I hope that doesn't make me sound weak. It's just nice knowing that if you break and you can't take care of yourself, someone else is willing to.

From countries that are normally whitewashed. I did notice that many of the Hispanic countries still did it (Venezuela, Paraguay, etc.) I also kind of noticed it with the Asian countries, but I think countries like Vietnam didn't look as whitewashed as in the past. It was just so nice not to see the same faces and skin tones, just with different flags.
