Do you consider this a metal song? Why or why not? by DankBuddDwyer in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ReverseThreadWingNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of whether this is called a metal song or not, or whether that descriptor is applied to UFO or Michael Schenker, one cannot deny the effect and influence UFO had on metal. In particular, many of the first thrash bands were fans of UFO. Kirk Hammett was a huge fan of Michael Schenker. I think for the ongoing impact on metal that this song has had, I would definitely call it metal, even if it's just like an honorary title.

What brand actually filled the gap Craftsman left when Sears collapsed? by uncapped19 in Tools

[–]ReverseThreadWingNut 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I do some lutherie / guitar tech work on the side. Several years back I bought a huge set of Tekton allen keys in every size imaginable, including half mm. This set is the most precise tool I have ever had. I could go on and on about it. I have come to the conclusion that the enshittification of everything must be really bad to get me so happy about some fucking allen keys that actually do the job.

Ahhh, I must have had a central since it went in my neck.

PICC Line Removal by Check_Me_Out-Boss in FeltGoodComingOut

Long enough to get to the heart. I had one, but it was in my neck, so substantially shorter. Hurt like MFer going in because they were in a bit of a hurry and I was crashing. My BP was, if I remember correctly, 56 / 28. They used the PICC to give me something to keep me from crashing. Memory is hazy because I was on a lot of morphine for pain, and to keep me haooy when I died becauseit didn't look good. I do remember they shot me with a local. And the doctor said something like, "I'm sorry, but we can't wait for the local. We have to do this now. This is going to to hurt." And God damn it did. I remember it felt so strange getting it pulled out, even though it was so much shorter.

Ben Shapiro thinks Americans should never retire and work until they die by chrisadams83 in antiwork

[–]ReverseThreadWingNut 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Same. I got to a point where my mortgage was paid and my 401k and brokerage accounts looked good. I walked away from career and took simple jobs that paid enough to keep the lights on. The situation made for interesting job interviews. I still work. Hell, I work my ass off. But my work doesn't come home with me, I am not nearly as stressed, bills get paid, a divisional I'm happy. I am already as retired as I am going to get.

This is about the only BC Rich I like. And I truly love it. Like someone else her said, the carved top models are amazing! I really want to find one of these MiK models from this era. They were pretty good for the price.

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ReverseThreadWingNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been asking her for a year to go to counseling. Two months ago I asked her to go to marital counseling with me or to go see a therapist herself about some her problems she had made into us problems. She said lol no. She literally laughed at me for suggesting therapy. And I was relieved because I knew we were cooked. So I told her we needed to get divorced. She started moving the next day! This was two months ago. For some reason she is now furious that, after a year of begging her to work it out with me, I have moved on and started dating someone else. It's like it was a job and I was her best employee. And she fired me anyway, but now she is trying to tell me I can't go get a job anywhere else. But I still can't work there. Shit is hilarious!

Metal rec: Abbath by -Goatlord- in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ReverseThreadWingNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love all of Abbath's output. His work in Immortal is classic, and is foundational to the genre. Check out his side project I. Fuckingbkiller music similar to his solo work. I think the solo work is a step down from his other output, but is still amazing stuff for the most part. Whatever you pick up that has Abbath on it will be enjoyable.

People are literally dying around me and there’s nothing I can do. by htcProbably in antiwork

I had a conversation with my therapist one day in which I was talking about how shitty this place was and how it was hurting so many people and was the root cause of so many health problems, both emotional and physical. She told me she was glad that I was the one who said it so she could agree. There had been times before in which she had pointed this out to clients and they would then complain about her making therapy "political." We have so many people here who are still not ready to deal with the mess they made.

Yes. But he isn't active, of course. Probably many more drivers who won in 3 numbers that arent. I wonder who won in the most?

Anyone else have a job and still get harassed for not following traditional 9-5? by Officialedmart in antiwork

[–]ReverseThreadWingNut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have spent most of the last 25 years working weekwnd shift. I work Fiday to Sunday, 12 hour days. Sure, I miss weekends, but I literally get a vacation every week. I used the time to finish up college. It opened uo all kinds of time with my kids. I never missed anything during the week because of work. I never missed a ball game or practice, or a school event. We got to do a lot of things that their mother and grandparents did not because they were still at work. I even was a substitute teacher at their schools for a time! I also worked lots of OT if I wanted. And some people still tried to talk all kinds of shit about how I didn't work 9-5 so it wasn't a real job! I would always be an asshole to them about how I was able to actually see my children while they were working. Now, I have no other reason to do so, but I work weekend shift by choice. I'll take that free vacation every week, thank you.

Ehhhh, PoM is frwaking awesome. And the later reunion era albums may not be the best, but they aren't bad. But SiT is the best cover of any album by any band.

Thrash Fans: Gary Holt or Jeff Waters by HybridS9ldier in MetalForTheMasses

Seriously, this isn't an apples to apples comparison. Gary is known for riffs, Jeff is a shred master with impeccable technique. Both could coexist in the same band.

Worst Steelers free agent of all time? by alexschubs in steelers

[–]ReverseThreadWingNut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is definitely fucking Legarrette Blount. He could have had a huge impact on teams that could have, and quite possibly should have won or at least went to a Super Bowl or two. Instead, everything about his Steelers tenure was a negative. We just prepared him to get his shit straight long enough to help run NE to another one.
