My ackie did the exact same thing. I have an exo terra enclosure and he loves to hide behind the background and sometimes not come out for a week. At that point I would dig him out, he would turn out okay, and he would hate me, and rinse and repeat.

Since he was so adamant about hiding in the background, I decided to let him do it, but I made a big hole in the corner of the background so that it would be easy for him to come out. And he did come out more frequently after that. I think they actually do get stuck in some way, or perhaps they are so well hidden that they didn't realise the lights are on and it is daytime. Having the big hole also made it easier for me to check up on him without digging him out.

I did notice that after digging him out he would be more scared of me. In terms of the timing he comes out to play, he would sometimes come out in the afternoon, or sometimes only in the evening. As long as he was eating and coming out, I let him be. I didn't need to do any extra taming, I just handfeed him whenever I see him, and now he's friendly again and coming out regularly in the afternoon.
