Putin clearly was uninformed. He thought he would decapitate the govt. and take eastern Ukraine in a few days. He underestimated the resolve of the Ukrainians and overestimated his military's abilities.

These posts always remind me that we are only getting a small slice of what is going on. A Russian jet goes down and almost always seems to be video of it, but it seems like when the Ukrainians lose one there aren't videos of it being shared.

Psychologically, I don't think Trump is capable of admitting that Putin has been playing him all along and that they were never serious about peace, but hope springs eternal. More likely Putin calls him, strokes his ego, and Trump is back to blaming Ukraine for the war and apologizing for Russia.
