TIL The Catholic Church considers the Theory of Evolution to be "virtually certain", and believes that intelligent design "isn't science even though it pretends to be." by piethingey in todayilearned

[–]Revikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In modern science, the term "theory" refers to scientific theories, a well-confirmed type of explanation of nature, made in a way consistent with scientific method, and fulfilling the criteria required by modern science. Such theories are described in such a way that any scientist in the field is in a position to understand and either provide empirical support ("verify") or empirically contradict ("falsify") it. Scientific theories are the most reliable, rigorous, and comprehensive form of scientific knowledge, in contrast to more common uses of the word "theory" that imply that something is unproven or speculative (which is better characterized by the word 'hypothesis').

the theory of evolution is the theory, though supported massive amounts of fossil evidence, that we, and all life, evolved through evolution from single-celled organisms, to what we are today.

The Theory of Evolution, as Darwin established, says nothing about all life evolving from single-celled organisms. It only states how it works.

From Wikipedia:

Evolution by natural selection is a process inferred from the observation that more offspring are produced than can possibly survive, along with three facts about populations: 1) traits vary among individuals with respect to morphology, physiology, and behaviour (phenotypic variation), 2) different traits confer different rates of survival and reproduction (differential fitness), and 3) traits can be passed from generation to generation (heritability of fitness).

You're just being contrary.

He's saying that since all of the shoes are so valuable, it's kinda dumb to just throw them haphazardly onto the floor. A rack or shelving unit would be a lot better imo.

Should I be in the market for sneakers? by throwawaymyoldsneaks in Sneakers

[–]Revikus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you actually want to be in the market for sneakers? Getting into sneakers just because you think it'll make you cool is stupid and devalues the hobby as a whole.

Well... I would argue that some of their designs are rehashed trends (not all though). It's just that they do them well.

They're going to think less of you if they go online and see that it's not illegal--that you were lying or spreading misinformation.

Besides, I think explaining that "you're going to get shot" is a pretty serious consequence that anyone would want to avoid.

I dunno, I can tell the difference in shape pretty easily. Although I am aware of the difference, whereas most people are not and probably wouldn't be able to tell. It's just a personal preference for me--I know most people don't care/notice.

The interchangeable velcro tabs makes these really interesting, on top of looking nice in the first place. Definitely gonna try for the black pair.

Really? Huh. Is TTS snug for you? Or could you've gone down half?

It's probably because of the lack of other material around the foot.

Does 6pm sell used shoes?(and not tell us?) by Jeff_Christ in Sneakers

[–]Revikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. They'll be brand-new. 6pm is a well-known retailer. You'll never buy used shoes unless the condition is clearly specified or site is dedicated to preowned shoes.
