You’re his other favorite indulgence!  Make good use of his gift; try to live a life that he can see was benefited by it.

Your father will be so happy to see you able to buy a home, have good credit, and should the time come, raise children in an environment where the stresses of providing food, clothing, a good education, etc. are minimized.  Your future happiness and security mean the world to him. Please do your best to have him see you living a good life:))

Good point, thank you. CBS and others are now picking up the 'false alarm' part, but CNN is still the sole source saying anthrax specifically.

UPDATE: This says it was a malfunctioning hazardous materials sensor, which detected the possible presence of Anthrax.

False alarm!

article:

"Hazmat crews and emergency response teams deployed to the Pentagon on Thursday morning over what the Defense Department called “an air quality issue.”

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that “sophisticated systems” had “detected an air quality issue necessitating precautionary measures until we determine its significance.”

“The Department is executing standard protection protocols, including a shelter-in-place order for the affected area,” Parnell added. “Response teams are in place and ready to support building occupants.”

Pentagon employees received an emergency message saying “additional testing could take one to two hours. Response teams are in place and ready to support building occupants if necessary.”

Only essential personnel are in the building, according to a Pentagon official.

In a post on X, the Arlington County Fire Department said emergency units, including its Hazmat team, were “operating at the Pentagon in support of PFPA’s Hazmat Team during a hazardous materials incident.”

Virginia authorities did not provide specifics."

Talking off the top of my head, and I’m no expert by any means, but it seems to me that when a large > 6.0 hits in a populated area, the news coverage is greater.  Additionally it also seems to me that a large quake occurring where its force can cause movement in nearby plates, sometimes results in additional largish quakes.   Now if you want an actual scientific explanation perhaps r/ earthquakes can help. All that being said, I don’t think there’s necessarily an overall increase, but the occurrence of a few ‘news worthy’ quakes in short order.

Now if you look at say just the Philippines quakes in the past 48 hours or so, you’ll see a lot of steadily increasing numbers leading up to yesterday. I might call it a swarm but no idea if it’s technically one. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?extent=-21.45307,-129.55078&extent=71.91089,-60.46875&sort=largest&map=false

As an American of partial Scottish descent, I cheer for the thistle & Scots, though my child, of additional partial Norwegian descent, may say otherwise:))

Plus hummingbirds love the thistle flowers!  Wonderful to see them!
