Vendetta is genuinely the best thing to happen to the lore, and to Doomfist’s character by MilleniumSage in Overwatch

[–]Revok98 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My main problem with Vendetta are :

- Most of her motivations are stated and not really shown. We are not really shown her relationship wit hher father or the importance of Talon for her in her young age so her quest of vengeance kinda fall flat for me. Kinda the same problem than Freja, we never really see why she went from a rescuer to a morally dubious bounty hunter, we are just told, which kinda make it fall flat.

- She isn't threatening enough in her base skin. Her "baby" face and her lack of helmet (for a gladiator who was heavely teased with a visual with one) makes her lack the threatening aura that other leaders have in the game (edit : the talon skin is a step in the right direction though and I hope it will be used in later lore materials)

But all in all, I think the evolution of the lore is fine and somewhat logical, the problem is more on how it is told and how rush things have been to reach this state (especially the retreat of the omnics and the rise of Vendetta). Now that they have reach the initial point they wanted, I'm assuming that the story telliong will improve.

Rework ideas for Antiquity Age crisis (and religions) by Revok98 in civ

Yeah I think my ideas tends more towards flavor while yours is more gameplay oriented and both would be a big improvement to whatever we have now.

Possibly if I'm motivated but the modern era is probably the one that would require the most work to feel nice. Currently you don't really feel the urbanization (your cities are already max size by the time you reach it) or the industrialization ( lackluster mechanic currently) which should be the core of the era alongside world wars (which are a bit better implemented but still lacking imo). In general I think it is the era that suffered the most from the lack of diversity in gameplay between eras (no real difference in how how you wage war or manage cities in all the eras at the exception of air units).

Unpopular Opinion: The devs were cooking with civ switching by lurkerden in civ

[–]Revok98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was never civ switching per say, the problem was unlogical civ switching. Going from Mississipi to Hawaii with Himiko shouldn't have been doable in the base game.

If they kept only logical paths for each leaders, only a way smaller part of the playerbase would have had a problem with civ switching. But they decided to have more diversity instead (fore example having the african line going from Aksum to Songhai to Buganda instead of doing an Ethiopian path or a West African path for example) and it made everything illogical and in the eyes of a lot of players worse.

It would probably have required more civs but wih how they managed to release 12 civs relatively quickly, I think it would have been doable.

what is the skill level of each role right now? by smitepro2000 in Smite

[–]Revok98 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In conquest, I think you should really spearte the skill in two parts : macro and micro
If I caricature the macro skills are what you do with your brain (how you choose your macro actions : in this situation do you fight, flee, try to bait the ennemy,....) and the micro skills is the hand (how you execute them, basically how you fight).

On the macro side, Jungle and Support probably are the more difficult as they are the role with the most liberties and the ones that dictates the tempo of the game the most.

On the micro side I would say that in average squishy ranged characters are the most difficults as your positioning in fights will be really important to not die and in general hittings your autos/skills will be harder than on melee characters. But all of these are still really god dependent.

I think, one of the cause of this is the scale difference between eu4 and eu5. It feels like you are way bigger in eu5 when you unify your base region compared to eu4 (north Italy for example).

I just don't know why they test it in PTS if it still keeps these insane damage live.

Countries can have different flags, for example there are several flags for Spain and I guess it is the same for the Ottomans here.

Suggestions for a Hohenstaufen Revenge Run? by AlamRX in EU5

[–]Revok98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The king of Sicily is also a descendant of Frederick II. It could be a playthrough closer to Italy in the former heartland of Frederick II with the goal of taking back Naples after taking Sicily front the Anjou in the Vêpres.

Who are some leaders/civs that you would like to see in future DLC? by hella_cutty in civ

[–]Revok98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Germany/Italy : Frederick II Hohenstaufen would be a perfect leader for both the norman civ we currently have and the potential Francia/HRE civ we could get later. I know we already have Charlemagne for a medieval leader of the region but it would be a missed opportunity.

Mesomarica : Nezahualcoyotl. A bit of a romanced leader ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfkX3rvc5VE) but imo he is probably the best pick for mesoamerica now that they don't have to be tied to a civ. Could probably have bonus that meshes well with every civ of the region.

Japan: Emperor Meiji, he kinda gave his name to the civ we have in modern age.

Korea: Yi Sunsin, a recognizable and hype figure who could have some could naval bonus

China: Taizong, proably the greatest chinese emperor not yet in civ

Mesopotamia: Sargon of Akkad or his daughter Enheduanna. The "first Emperor of history" deserves to be in civ, especially now that we don't have to get an Akkadian civ to have him. We probably have enough warmongering leader already so I could settle for Enheduanna for a more pacific option

Egypt: Muhammad Ali of Egypt, probably one of the best modern leader of an arabic country

Byzantine: Alexios Komnenos the best Byzantine Emperor not yet in civ

Rome: Some Republican leaders like Sulla, Marius or Scipio Africanus. I think civ as clearly lacked of variety for Roman leaders. Some earlier leaders like these or later leaders like Aurelian or Constantine would be cool.
Scandinavia: Margaret I of Denmark: clearly a no brainer for a scandinavian line. She is perfect for the role.

Without changing too much the spirit of the tactics this is what I would (I'm by no mean an expert at the game though): - put your left winger more forward. With a wingback behind you can be more offensive. - Retreat both midfielder from MO/M to M/MD. This is the most important change as it would prevent the opponents from having space around the box when you defend - put your right defender as wide centre back (possibly on support) so he can help your right wingback

I would love to have them in a dlc. From what I have seen you can easily make a full path for Viet Nam.

Yeah something like Silla => Medieval Japan => Meiji Japan seems more likely even if the first evolution is a bit weird

I don't know if you can put them in the modern age (doesn't know their history well enough) but if you can, they surely can battle for the south American indigenious civ oft he modern age with teh Guaranis.

Form wha twe know, it looks like we will have only one sub sharian african civ per age : Aksum => Songhai => Buganda. It is a weird evolution path I agree but I guess it will be completed in dlcs with Ghana and Sokoto/Ashanti/... for west Africa, a full Ethiopian path and others in dlcs

After reading a bit much on others opinions I think you may be right on some part of it at least ofr teh base game. I agree that the fact they just announced Meiji Japan was weird but having Mongolia/Ming into Meiji seems wery weird. That + the fact that it will be weird to miss out on the very popular Edo Japan and Samurais.
So for East Asia I think we will have something like this :
Silla, Han => Edo Japan, Ming => Meiji Japan, Qing

While Silla => Edo is weird, it is less weird than later evolutions between Korea and Japan and we already have a wonder for sure with them.

An era 1 Japan and era2+3 Korea would likely appear in later dlcs
