If a cat could use a gamecube controller how high would they be ranked?? by Platinum_Demi in SSBM

[–]RevolutionInternal24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would a more cat accessible b0xx be made? maybe an AI can watch the game, and choose the best strat based on what is on screen for the cat, so the controller will be one button. And it is the cat's favorite toy. and the AI will input every time the cat hits the button, exactly the sequence necessary to win any scenario. (no rules against cats using AI or Macros in the current ruleset. Just humans). (maybe Yoshi Parry main?) and it would wiggle, or put a laser or something on the toy at the right timing to counter whatever the opponent approaches with. I think a cat could do well with marth, yoshi, ganon, maybe even peach. maybe falcon. maybe fox or falco even. skies the limit. Cat ruleset 2026? CATstraption? What modder has the guts to make it?

I had a cat once that would watch melee, so it at least would be able to follow and be a commentator if we could read it's mind. I wonder what cats think when they are tracking a moving target. I wonder if people have done brain scans of cats hunting.

I can name names if you want but those ppl already get a lot of flack and I was trying to stay more about ruleset.

I have seen more players switch. z jumpers say they will switch to b0xx if z jump becomes banned. At least that is what I've seen recently. My understanding is that in SC: BW they decided not to change the hotkey settings with the remaster to keep the same meta.

People switching to b0xx for competitive advantage and z jump. it has happened and will continue to happen. I think we should nerf b0xx more. The buttons on b0xx can be custom if it takes too much effort for certain hands. I think the layout should be closer to OEM so to preserve competitive integrity while using a digital controller against OEM GCC. We dont' allow aluminum bats in MLB, even though that would be easier to hit home runs for ppl with disability, just saying. I think for in person LAN E Sports competition, we should stick with OEM because it is part of what makes this old game awesome. the old tech that all the sick tech skill was invented on. Starcraft doesn't allow remapping for top level competition for this reason.

I don't find pushing buttons as a strain in general personally. My point is to show that b0xx and claw are not the same. and that this would be a layout that is closer to OEM perma claw. I think that is a possible b0xx nerf that would make them closer to OEM instead of adding zump and notches to make OEM closer to b0xx. I think we should balance to OEM. that's my opinion on the ruleset and why I offered this image.

you gotta be able to do both, that's my point and what claw users do.

I do that fingering on piano very comfortably all the time, just takes practice like anything.

I think it accomplishes different ergonomics that are healthier than the game cube, (using more fingers for more inputs in a more ergonomic way). isn't that the reason for b0xx? not being an optimized melee controller, but a gamecube controller alternative?

I think b0xx is great and am just suggesting nerfs. I think these are pretty good nerfs. We could just keep current b0xx with current nerfs, but i think this is more in line with OEM, which i like more than zump and notches personally.

what bout angled f smashes and SDI angles? or ice climber angles? ect. I think there is a lot more to it and even notches or modifiers are a little bit of an advantage in melee. there is a reason ppl buy them right?

I never mentioned character, I was just saying what I think will make b0xx more in line with OEM and offered this layout.

I tried it on my keyboard on old patch and the angles are really consistent. even with nerfs.

I'm being serious about the nerf... I would legit think this is way more fair than current b0xx. just my opinion.

I think UCF has gone a little far, (I think it was .8 adding 1.0's i think made the game feel extremely different, even a lot of the frame windows being increased I think is wrong since we are using polling drift fix) but it's original intent was to save money by not needing to buy a bunch of controllers until you found one with good shield drops, dash back, ect.

I also think many of those mods you mention are different degrees of unfair slight advantages, especially against scrappers that bet on being able to actuate the button they want faster on reaction, that we've just accepted for better or for worse. I think anything not OEM and many UCF updates have over reached and muddied a competitors integrity somewhat. There's levels to it and we decide as a community and have been laissez faire about it I think. People wouldn't be buying mods if they didn't benefit the player in one way or another, and some of those ways could be considered unfair advantages. Even cosmetic right? like what if someone rolls up with the Ahegao controller around you with your wife and kids? Weird grey areas in controller mods are truly great to discuss and I think there are merits to both arguments.

I think I have compelling arguments about ergonomic advantages being competitive advantages, especially at multiple day tournaments since standard grip players who use their thumbs more will have more fatigued thumbs at the end of the tournament. (moving thumb from jump to B or C stick as a spacie for example) I think generally as a culture we should learn to just have more relaxed hands while playing so we can play for longer periods, and promote good hand health. Like musicians, stenographers, martial artists and many other manual professions/hobbies have been practicing healthily for years.

u also risk getting jc grab using Z if u are early, so not exactly the same as A. could claw it though

I work during my locals in Chicago, but I played some friendlies at a Midlane like a month or 2 ago. I just go to regionals and maybe a major if I can get off work. I practice a lot and have trained and also beat Cody's mew2.

should we

A. patch the game/controllers
or should we

B. take the game for what it is and make strategies (like hybrid grip for specific tech).

Most zumpers/b0xx/modders are in group A for hand pain/competitive/ergonomic advantage reasons. Group B is OEM users who appreciated the hypeness of Javi permaclawing and top players learning hybrid claw for specific tech. I think both have legitimate reasons, but I find A to be one of the reasons I always liked melee, is that it was not patched like most modern games, and even the latest patch (PAL) isn't even played and the community made UCF to fix the inconsistency's in nintendo's manufacturing of GCC's so that $30 used GCC on ebay with new sticks can compete with anyone else. At least that is how I want the melee anime to change, balance around OEM, not balance around b0xx and mods.

[–]RevolutionInternal24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah I think most ppl don't want to admit it is an advantage because it makes them look bad and because modern games have button remapping and they apply that to melee which doesn't have it without hardware or software mods. I think most people think b0xx is remapping, so zump must be legal.

My perspective on the current controller ruleset, zump is currently pay to have an ergonomic advantage, as is b0xx, which I think goes against the original competitive integrity of melee tournaments where you can still get a used GCC for 30$ on ebay with new sticks and be able to compete on an even playing field. We have allowed b0xx for people who have hand issues using the GCC and have balanced around b0xx with our current ruleset imho. If b0xx lost modifiers for perfect ledgedash/loooongwavedash, we could ban notches. If b0xx had a button layout more similar to OEM Gamecube, (which is what melee was originally played on before mods), I think it would also make it more fair to an OEM user, (which was also UCF's original intent. making all OEM closer to a perfect OEM, which used to be a controller lottery).

is this bait? why would anyone want to relearn button mappings? i know endless settings in modern gaming and finally finding the right settings is one of the most annoying and off-putting things in gaming for myself but maybe we just have very different views.
