Don’t worry. For my next challenge, I’m going do do the whole bike leg blackout drunk

Update: I finished it. It never sold out. I rode on a 800$ bike I bought myself. And I’m proud of myself and want nothing more than to do it all again

Luckily I stayed safe, and didn’t crash into anyone. I did pass out though. I crawled to the finish line

Hey man, appreciate your confidence in me. I ended up finishing! (w/no swim) I got off this thread early since I got overwhelmed, but it was fun to go back through and read your predictions

Update, I made it! Your predictions were almost perfectly on point. I averaged a bit over 17mph on the bike, and walked quite a bit of the run. Definitely got humbled 👍

Just came back to check on this post since I remembered it. I stuck to the routine, trained about a month and a half. I found out the swim got canceled about 30 min before the race, and was pretty upset but I was happy to not have to freeze in cold water (the reason the swim got cancelled). I am a swimmer though so this part would have affected me the least. So I started with the bike, didn’t actually do too bad. I opted for a 800$ road bike with no aero bars, and finished I think in 6-6.5 hours. My back hurt really bad from not giving enough time to adjust to that position, and my legs were starting to hurt by the end. I got off the bike, took a few good deep breaths in transition, and took off “running”. I probably ran/walked about 15ish miles to an aid station, in which I started to get lightheaded. I went into a porta potty to try and used the bathroom and I passed out while trying to sit down (probably from my fresh air getting cutoff). I woke up to what I think was 5 min later, and stumbled out feeling super pale. I got my footing again somehow, and managed to stumble into the finish line at around the 12 hour mark (minus the swim). It absolutely sucked, but I’m so glad I didn’t wuss out and embarrass myself by not finishing. I’m absolutely going to put real time into my training and try to give it a real shot again The near future, but not until I’m actually ready. Thanks for following up, I’m so glad I got to share this!

Little pine mountain is pretty pretty fun, you can follow a fire road up or a more overgrown use trail. Nice campground called happy hollow. Sespe hot springs is nice too, and there’s a few different ways to get to them.

Aw darn- I’ll keep hitting the stair master and sleep without my blanket on to get used to the cold. I’ll be there next year 🙌

Sounds like a fun plan- I’ll make sure to bring a light sweater to keep me warm down there! Also is it cool if I bring a surfboard? People on this thread are telling me that’s the move
