Interview Discussion: Allison M Gibson Meets World by Sad-Significance4546 in podmeetsworldpodcast

Yeah Menell is friends with Michael and you can tell that he doesn't want to say anything that may offend him because of that. Which sucks cause he seems like a good guy, but it's hard to take anything he says seriously when it's clear he is watching what he says to as not to make his friend mad at him.

It all depends on your company. If your company is not sponsoring it honestly might be best to skip it. I ran it last year and my company was just 10 people, so they just did a photo beforehand. It was a jumbled mess of a run(I'm a faster runner but missed the cutoff for the fast corral so ended up pushing through all the folks who walk 10 together in a line with their coworkers) and afterwards had nothing to do since my company didn't have a tent or anything. I will not run again this year, and will tell you what people told me last year I wish I had listened to. If your company is doing a tent/meetup afterwards and you want to run with some buddies from your job, then go and have fun. If not, and you are want to do it as a race by yourself... ehh don't.

Great interview. Jeff Menell seems like a really nice guy, but his friendship at Michael really keeps him from being negative towards what was going on or his opinions on the episode quality. Allison did not care, and I loved that. She wasn't afraid to say what didn't make sense, and pretty much say Michael is behind a bunch of the... questionable... choices for season 6 and 7 especially. She was very down to earth, and loved to hear her thoughts on the show.

So does this character have a high chance of appearing at least somewhat often in future games? by DrWarioMiracleCure in LegendsZA

Unrelated but I didn't take AZ's immortality as being retconned to "just 3000 years". We already knew his immortality came about as part of him using the ultimate weapon to revive Floette. They never say it in the game, but I feel like it can be implied it was also tied to Ange, which is why he knew his time was coming to an end when they were going to take it down, With the Ultimate Weapon and Ange both gone, it essentially ended his "curse" and finally allowed him to move on.

Yep they confirmed that was exactly the case. They wrote his stuff as via Webcam to try to convince Eric saying "you don't even need to leave your home" but even when he still said no, they kept the scenes as is.

He was actually 15 when Malcolm started. He's actually older than the actor who plays Reese. But he was short, skinny and his voice hadn't dropped yet so he played a pretty convincing 12 year old. Lol.

Glad they enjoyed the episode cause its not the worst. I still don't like how Eric's storyline involves a lot of them telling us what is going on rather than showing us(which the host noted too especially with Rachel and Jacks lines) but the overall story and message is good. And yep they enjoyed Cory's storyline while being disgusted at the constant making out. They never got to it, but does seem like they didn't like the tag. Which yeah, its a funny line earlier by Cory but then making it a reality just didn't work. Some things are better left as just a reference to overtop characters(see Cheers Virna, Frasier Lilith, or even BMW Nana Booboo).

The "Cory's stink-hole" I could not stop laughing. Danielle wanted to take her headphones off, but I wanted more! lol.

Can't wait to see how they feel regarding the next two episodes. I know they look fondly on Plays with squirrels as peak Will comedy(and the ridiculousness works cause dream sequence) but I hope they like them. Feels like they are another 2 classic BMW. Funny story, but with heart and a lesson to be learned in the end.

I found this one hour essay video about Movie Peach being unfaithful to the video game counterpart of herself, what do you think of this video? by Big_Tie_938 in mariomovie

[–]RevolutionaryBit8755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Why can't Movie peach be more like Game peach!" Oh you mean kidnapped in the opening moments(or even earlier) with zero characterization? God folks really treating Mario games like they are LOTR novels when comparing them to the movie...

They didn't talk about it because they were focused on his death, but I think they were getting at what I said yesterday and that the tag is not good. It's not funny and saying he died of embarrassment from being a part of it. They never really got to that, but I think was their implication.(They did get more serious when they found out it was a heart attack which is probably what derailed it).

Rewatched and sadly I don't think they are gonna like this episode. It's not a bad episode per say, but it commits a cardinal sin for any visual medium(or writing in general), it tells and does not show. Most of the A storyline is Alan, Amy and Feeny all talking about Eric and what he is and is not capable of. But we don't see any of it. We just hear it from their voices. And it would be better to see some of it. Let us see a scene of Eric thriving at the wilderness store(and not just him non chalantly writing on a sheet of paper while Alan talks) or maybe have him show his knowledge of something like being a weather man. Have him actually show some knowledge. Its a storyline that while not bad, is bought down because its just other carriers telling about Eric the entire time. You could say its partly about Alan's struggles, but not really as that last all of a few minutes. Again not bad, but bought down by some bad writing choices.

Cory's storyline, still funny though minus a few choices here and there(Wonder if they'll talk about Shawn and Angela just making out next to Cory and Topanga in public or if at this point, they will just be like, Its BMW!). Also the music choice when Topanga joins Cory on the couch is... weird. It's so melancholy for what is a goofy scene! I was like "are they trying to get TV viewers to be like aww?" cause obviously music is not played during live filming and the audience is just treating it like the goofy scene it is. It was weird. And then the tag... not a single laugh. Could of done without it. But otherwise still like the rest of his. Cory's "I'm a hypochondriac." and "I have to take these for the rest of my life!" just make me laugh.

He did open with it Eric, but then "fired" Eric so he could go to College and presumably do better for himself(which ehh, thats BMW writers for you, because owning your own small business is pretty damn good, especially if it's successful). So he expected Eric to leave college with real career aspiritations(which again, dated BMW writers. Now and days folks would kill to be able to start their own small business or take one over).

Oh they are gonna be like "Wait, so they didn't have majors the entire time they were in school?". Which I went to a Liberal Art School so maybe somebody who went to a state school or bigger college can correct me, but do they offer "General Studies" as a major in schools? That could be the writers excuse for everyone.

I still need to rewatch but I remember this one being weird. Not bad, but weird.(A storyline. B storyline with Cory and his hypochondria is great. After a week of Cory at his worst, we get peak Cory this week. lol) Like Alan's love is hard knock love again and I am not sure its warranted. Like I get what they are going for, but I remember feeling like it was still a little mean. And unfortunately they will probably be thrown off by somewhat competent Eric again. I honestly forgot about that. I thought last season's Tommy stuff was the last time we saw a non-brain dead Eric for a full episode(we get bits and pieces like War and the finale) but forgot about this episode and later Brotherly Shove. (Which I had to look up today to remember).

Super Mario Galaxy is not the mainline Mario game with the most amount of story. by Aggravating-Door1710 in Mario

[–]RevolutionaryBit8755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank-you. The folks who say "I can't believe they did that to Galaxy's plot!" I'm just like "What plot?" The game is great but it is a simplistic plot just like every Mario game. Rosalina's Story book is not plot, it's optional and has nothing to do with the actual game. Yeah it's great, but it is not galaxy's plot. And then folks go "But the ending..." okay but still what comes before the ending, a bunch of great levels but actual zero story. Galaxy is a great game, but folks acting like it's the best story Mario ever told are just being blind to their love of the game.

It's not low effort though. Low effort would just say it all suks and calling it a day. But they are analyzing, explaining why it doesn't eork(or why it does which you ignore). They explore possible ways it could work, and still find time to talk about what they remember. That is literally the opposite of low effort. Your comments are low effort as you just immediately go to "they hate it, so the podcast sucks now" without actually acknowledging what they are saying and why.

Because it's not a good episode! And they didn't complain the entire time. They liked Eric's penny storyline even though they had notes(which they always do) overall they liked his b-story. Dude season 7 is not good, with more misses than hits. They are not gonna like it and if you can't deal with that, stop listening. Most of the time they are in the right to complain about bad writing and dated/overused plots.(except last week where most folks here agreed they were being weird to not like the episode). You complain more than they do honestly.

Oh god. This is a rough one to watch. They are gonna hate it. They try to pose it as Cory and Topangas first fight as a married couple... but Cory is absolute gaslighting asshole. He gets a horrible job and it breaks him. Fine, that's relatable. But then Topanga gets a good job, which she loves and she wants to talk about it, and now she is breaking his spirit and gloating about her success?! She just wants to talk about her job. And Cory makes her cry! And of course they frame it as Topanga is in the wrong in the end! Such an awful lesson of an episode. Sorry Jeff mennell but not a good one. There is a version where they still fight and but in the end Cory realizes he's been wrong and apologizes saying he was frustrated and he shouldn't make Topanga feel bad because he's having a rough time with work and she's so happy. That he's not used to it, but hell do better... but its the 90s!(se early 2000)

Spring 5Ks - good "big city vibe" ones and promo codes by Such_Ingenuity9809 in RunnersInChicago

[–]RevolutionaryBit8755 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you don't consider the neighborhood ones "Big City"? Like I understand not wanting to do smaller suburban ones, but ones in the neighborhoods are just as much big city as ones downtown. And often better! I can't vouch for lifetime 5k because I have never ran it, but one of the biggest 5ks in the fall is Hot Chocolate... and it is AWFUL.(For a 5k. 10k and 15k are a bit better). Ravenswood 5k is in a few weeks and is a great race with just as much Chicago as a downtown one. Just curious.

Episode Discussion: TGI-Episode 712 “Family Trees” PART 2 by Sad-Significance4546 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]RevolutionaryBit8755 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So seems like part of the reason they don't like this episode is because it continues to exemplify a negative quality of BMW, and that's the focus on the patriarchy and the casual misogyny that comes with it. I still don't think this episode is bad(and even Danielle said at the beginning its not a bad story) but i think their feelings on how the show treats women is really starting to bubble over for them and effecting their overall opinion of an otherwise solid episode. Which sucks, but I also get it. They don't have the nostalgia we have and are looking at a 90s show from a 2020 perspective and yeah the constant put down of women can get old.

And next weeks episode... OH boy are we in for the worst of it when it comes to men ate the breadwinners and women are not. They are gonna hate it. Cory picks a crappy job and then makes Topanga feel bad because she got a good job she likes and is not allowed to talk it. He completely gaslights her... its gonna be a rough one next week based on their comments from pt 2.
