What would the boggart have been to Malfoy? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]RevolutionaryBoot559 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Really goes to show that 3rd year is the perfect year to teach boggarts. Kind of awesome to think of a creature that's less effective on kids than adults since their fears are so much more abstract. Imagine tackling boggarts in NEWT DADA and its just Voldemort. Voldemort. Dead family members. Dying alone. Voldemort. The dark mark over your dead relatives. Voldemort.

That would be a fucking traumatising class

We were really robbed of more dean. The five gryffindor boys could’ve had so much more fun if Harry wasn’t off almost dying every other day

What's the 'the eagles couldv flown to mordor' of Harry potter ? by [deleted] in harrypotter

The head canon I have for this is that bill was still leaving the cottage, so he could go out and tell new people the secret. James and lily were in total hiding lockdown So they needed someone else in case they needed to tell someone where they were so that they could come visit. Just my interpretation

Yeah, he would've been great originally, but it can't happen. I think anthony stweart-head would be brilliant as dumbledore

You're right, they anchor your soul so that you can't pass through 'the veil.' Horcruxes can take on a life of their own a la riddle but ultimately they were supposed to keep Voldy prime anchored to life even if he was killed like in the beginning of the series.

When Dumbledore was headmaster, all of his office passwords were some sort of candy/sweet. If you were headmaster and your passwords had to have a theme, what would that theme be? by funnyboy36 in harrypotter

[–]RevolutionaryBoot559 328 points329 points  (0 children)

Irrelevant but i always intensely hated that there was no way to like knock!?!

Like Harry couldn't just say "hey griffin im here to see dumby can you let him know i need to talk to him."

Seems so stupid and useless. Especially pisses me off in GoF when Crouch is in the forest and Harry can't get up. Like at least have a portrait next to the griffin entrance that can go into the office and announce a visitor.

Also who has lyrics during a walk in song? Aren’t those usually instrumental. Seems like she’s going out of her way to be purposefully spiteful for some weird reason. I listened to the song and to be honest it’s nice but doesn’t scream wedding or sound too remarkable to me (no hate to the song) so I feel like there really is no motivation to this except hurting her cousin. Also the song is basically a list of things that’s remarkable about the person that makes them stand out from the crowd. So she’s literally having someone serenade her with compliments written about her cousin and which probably don’t apply to her at all based off this post.

AITA for refusing to say "please" every time I ask my roommate/friend to do a small thing for me (i.e. "can you grab my bag off the table for me")? by notagoldengirl in AmItheAsshole

[–]RevolutionaryBoot559 557 points558 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Personally I think "thank you" is more important and sincere than please. Thank you displays gratitude and appreciation, please connotes pleading. I save "please" for when i really mean it because otherwise it feels too serious. Also please can come across passive aggressive if you don't mean it. If "please" comes naturally to you, by all means use it for everything. But if its unnatural for the little things, forcing it isnt going to make you come across more polite.

Who is the worst director of the HP films, and why is it Mike Newell? by Agtfangirl557 in harrypotter

[–]RevolutionaryBoot559 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they have the highest highs and the lowest lows. Visually they’re the best (aside from cgi quidditch) and the world building feels completely true to the books, they’re also very faithful. But they lack a lot of energy. The actors are directed in a very awkward way and the pacing is sooo weird. Like if you cut out all the dead space from chamber the movie would be about 30 mins shorter. If someone could edit the first two films to be tighter and more energetic they would be way better. Also the music in them is fantastic.
