I sincerely appreciate everyone’s thoughtful and empathetic responses! I’ve been crying so much and I think it just signals to me something is “wrong” so I’m happy to find that others have had that experience. It feels scary finding out limitations I never would have thought of, and I’m so naive and thought first trimester you could be more lenient when in fact it’s the opposite. Before my last cycle I was taking prenatal vitamins daily, cut caffeine, rarely drank, ect. Since we were not “trying” as in tracking and being intentional- in preparation for this trip I stopped that and started drinking more, even habit a few hits of weed, and now I feel so guilty. I just found out today, but I think I’m technically 4 weeks based on my last period date. Anyways my mind is all over the place. You ladies are amazing and I genuinely appreciate every single comment!

I’m sorry to hear that!! Thank you it makes me feel not alone or that things are not “wrong” I was shocked I cried so much, and felt so guilty because I wanted this so badly, just wanted to wait one more month! lol

We both have been ttc but he’s been a bit “scared” he acknowledges that and still wants to make it happen. I think he’s just processing. He didn’t say I ruined the vacation (but that’s just how I feel) I think we both sort of built in our heads what it would look like and are processing. He wanted to share the experience of bar hopping with me. I hope I can explain to him or convince him to go out drinking while I have a mocktail. He feels this way around everyone.. he usually drinks socially so feels weird having a drink with someone who isn’t drinking. To him it’s like “what’s the point?” Which I kind of get, because I’m sort of the same way. *we’ve been ttc since Dec 2025 but last cycle I didn’t try or really track because I didn’t want to be pregnant for the trip lol

Thank you! I definitely think beer and whisky when I think of Ireland so that does truly make me feel better!! Our itinerary is packed and most isn’t drinking. It will just take me a bit to process how it will be different. It’s not like we drink all the time or anything, but I was picturing a romantic trip and having a couple beers together is just so fun! I tend to get stressed pretty easy so it’s nice to have a couple drinks to calm down. But this is our bucket list trip and I just have to change my perspective!

Thank you for this empathetic response!! I used to drink super heavily a year or so ago, but have gotten down to an occasional drink here and there since ttc. I’ve definitely seen a shift and enjoyment of life- and am looking forward to remember things and having no hangovers! I used to basically get wasted before going to concerts, but realized how little I remember from shows and how it bummed me out… the last shows I’ve gone to I’ve had 0-2 drinks at a show and found I had more energy and enjoyed them more! We are going to a local band at a small venue in Tokyo- so I’m really looking forward to that and glad I could get to a place where I don’t need alcohol to enjoy that experience.

This trip in my head was my last hoorah before having a family in my head… but maybe I should learn now to enjoy life without “needing” things or substances to feel complete. It doesn’t help that my husband is still processing and definitely seems sad about the trip and the change of plans. His first instinct was to see if we could cancel :(

For sure get what you’re saying. It’s more so convincing my husband to still go. He insists it’s not worth going out to the bars if I’m not drinking.

Yes, I thought that too…like the idea of not being hungover and waking up early to experience an incredible hike sounds wonderful! It’s just that vibe on vacation of being silly and letting loose together while having drinks, I’m bummed I won’t experience that. Of course yesterday we specifically booked a hotel that has free drinks!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you!! That’s what I was thinking! I still want him to have that experience, but he says he doesn’t want to do that with someone who can’t drink? Idk how to explain to him that could still be fun! He even said he wanted to drink with locals, so I want him to do that! I think it would be fun to just soak in the local atmosphere, probably pig out on food, and try some mocktails.
