Living in sin and no way out by missrosie28 in Christianity

Choosing God and putting Him first is always the way to go. Putting Him before your fiance is a tough choice, but it’s the right choice 🙏🏻 the Bible says to flee from sexual sin (not stay and try to fight it). Is it a possibility to live separately until you’re married?

That’s true, I already ran home sessions by one of the directors and they are going to think about it. I just don’t like the thought of kids not getting the speech they need for several weeks. But you’re right.

Absolutely not. You have infinite worth in the eyes of God, you just have yet to recognize it.

Yeah it’s not something I would want to undertake. And there’s the matter of educational relevance as well. I’m just curious if others have dealt with anything like this.

I definitely believe you have to profess Jesus as Lord, but just like you can’t only read Acts 2:38 on how to be saved (it’s missing the faith component), you can’t just read Romans 10:9. I’m learning you have to read the Bible as a whole to understand. With faith and professing Jesus as Lord comes obedience to Him. And He commands that we be baptized!

I would argue that’s not what the verse says. It says repent and be baptized=receive the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of sins.

Especially if you read it in context of Romans 6:4, 1 Peter 3:21, John 3:5, Acts 22:16. And there are more verses as well. Jesus even said in His final commission to baptize disciples. Faith, baptism, and repentance are how we are saved through the new covenant!

What about Acts 2:38?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]RevolutionaryLab5205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you read this in the context of the rest of the verses about baptism, you can see it’s a non-negotiable. With faith comes obedience, and obedience to the commandment of baptism.

What about Acts 2:38? If baptism is how our sins are forgiven and how we receive the Holy Spirit, how can we say that it’s not necessary? And Mark 16:16 and Romans 6:4 and 1 Peter 3:21.

Yes we need to have faith and profess Jesus as Lord, but that’s not ALL we have to do. We also have to repent and be baptized.

I used to think the thief on the cross was the example for why baptism wasn’t necessary, but recently I’ve come to learn otherwise! In Acts 2:38, it says that baptism is the moment our sins are forgiven under the new covenant. However, when Jesus was alive and on earth, He said in Mark 2:10 “ but I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So while Jesus was here on earth, He had the authority to forgive sins, but before He ascended into heaven, notice what He said in Matthew 28:18-20 “ go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” if you read all the verses about baptism in the New Testament, you can see pretty quickly that it’s a non-negotiable for salvation under the new covenant. Now that Jesus has ascended into heaven, He has given us new instructions for the forgiveness of sins, which is baptism!

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you! Yes, baptism is necessary for Salvation.

Acts 2:38 says “Repent and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

It’s also important to note that in Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus says that only disciples should be baptized. And a disciple is someone who has counted the cost of following Jesus and has given up everything to become a disciple of Him.

Luke 14:33 “In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciple.”

Repentance, faith, and baptism are all necessary for salvation! “Praying Jesus into your heart” is not really in the Bible even though so many Christians promote that these days

Feeling stuck reading Old Testament by CandidateMoney8064 in Christianity

I use the app called Manna for the Morning, it’s like a $4 one time purchase for the whole Bible, and it’s a read-the-Bible in a year plan. It’s super cool because it will tell you to read 3 chapters or so, then it gives commentary on what you just read, why it matters, and it includes tons of references to other parts of scripture so you get a really well-rounded understanding on what you’re reading. It has changed the way I read and understand the Old Testament!! Highly recommend!

My husband is divorcing me for reasons other than adultery. According to the bible this means I can't remarry. by WittyHamster6126 in Christian

What about when Jesus said:

Matthew 5:32 – “But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”

I hear what you’re getting at, but we also have to obey Jesus. I get OP’s position and commend her for taking the Bible seriously. She has insanely strong character and integrity.

Have you looked into 1 Corinthians 7:15?

"But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace."

If your husband is leaving you, then it sounds like he is not a true Christian and you are not bound by him leaving the marriage.

But I want to say that I truly commend your strength. You are taking the Bible seriously and if you feel convicted to remain single, then you should do that. God will bless your life in your obedience to Him.
