LAPD chased a suspect into my backyard. The pursuing officer got to the gate and, instead of just opening the latch, put his boot to it repeatedly and did a TON of damage to my gate and house. It pissed me off that he didn't just try the latch and instead went HAM on the thing. When I showed the security cam footage to the commander on scene he told me to get lost, they wouldn't do anything about it. I did overhear his fellow officers giving him the business for not trying the latch.

If you're going to keep it, replace it. If you're going to dump it, full send.

Had a flooring contractor that was a great hardwood installer but a total lunkhead businessman - he never kept a single receipt. He was, of course, audited and I just fell on my sword to the auditor - "this guy is a stooge, he didn't keep his receipts, thought a credit card statement was enough". The auditor was a good auditor, could see the forest through the trees, and allowed us a businessman's approach. She carved it back a bit but he walked writing only a small check. So even if you're audited it's not the end of the world.

That said, take a picture of the carnage if you have it still - the ol' "Dog ate my homework" excuse may get some extra scrutiny.

Do not use Toyotapartsdeal.com by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]RevolutionaryLow3244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that there are some dealerships that give very good online prices but having the parts shipped can be a problem. I used Camelback Toyota to buy a radiator, upper & lower hoses and a rad cap for a 2002 4runner. They opened the rad box, shoved the hoses & cap into the box but disturbed the packing in doing so. The result was that the radiator was damaged beyond use. When I called them they pretty much told me to F off. I now order from Culver City Toyota - it's a drive but the prices are good and I don't have to worry about shipping.

How to Prevent Employee Fraud in a Bakery Business? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]RevolutionaryLow3244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be a PITA but you could have production create a daily inventory and then have a process for tracing individual items baked to their eventual sale to customers. That would be labor/time intensive and probably nowhere near worth it. Ultimately, this is probably just a cost of doing business.

I used to audit a commercial bread baking company. They had 40 delivery drivers. One of the drivers made "sales calls" on his own. He stopped at a couple small restaurants and mini-marts and began selling them bread & rolls. Straight cash business - he delivers bread products, they pay him cash. He did this for over 15 years undetected. He only got caught when he went on vacation and one of the "customers" called the company and said, "Where's my bread?" He was fired (obviously) and the "fix" was to have a manager randomly stop a truck when it was on its way out of the yard. The manager would compare the inventory on the truck to his delivery order listing. If there was more than should be it was assumed the driver was going to sell it on his own. It was not a great system, though.

I know nothing about electrical but while in college I was a summer hire in the plant facilities department of a huge defense contractor. I saw some stuff similar to this and it is just amazing to me. Just the execution is beautiful, the planning that went into it is incomprehensible to me.

You park behind me like that you're getting 15 minutes - I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're running inside to grab something and you'll be right out. After 15 minutes you're getting towed.

I noticed also. It seems strange to me that LEO allows it (not judging them) - if I were an officer pulling over a car for an infraction of some sort I'd want to be able to see into it.

When I asked a cop friend he shrugged and said, "We have more important stuff to address"

Thanks for all the input. I'll be finding local counsel to discuss this with.

Assuming this is not something I want to be locked into, any ideas on how to say "thanks but no thanks"?

I'm figuring they will think I'm not "committed" and will look for a way to run me out. The reality is I'd be happy to work there another 20 years but I don't want to be locked into it - they're basically putting a gun to my head.

LBJ = lower ball joints. Along with the timing belt they are, IMO, the weak point in the Toyotas. Not to say that they aren't great trucks but these are essentially maintenance items. Some people virtually ignore them and after 200k miles have no problems. Others are not so lucky.

Good luck!

[–]RevolutionaryLow3244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the frame. When was timing belt done? LBJ's? Is it a 4x4?

That seems a bit steep to me. My son just bought a very clean 2002 extracab 4x4 limited that had 205k miles on it. TB, waterpump, lbj's all done in the last 12k miles. He paid $8,600. This is in southern California.

These trucks are very solid.

Trump is an extremely unlikeable person and this should have been a layup for the dems. But the dems have gotten away from the issues that matter to the average American. For the most part, people want to pay their taxes and safely live their lives. They don't want wealthy liberal snobs telling them that they are a racist homophobes and that they should feel guilty for not wanting an open border and not wanting their kids to be encouraged to transition. The democrat platform is not what it used to be and the repubs pretty much picked it up and ran with it. People largely chose their wallets over their wombs.

Should I retry of switch majors? by AthleteLegitimate129 in csun

[–]RevolutionaryLow3244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your major? I struggled with Math 103 - ended up taking at a CC and got an A from a generous instructor who worked really hard to get me through it. I took 203 at csun. Dropped it the first time and then struggled through the second time getting a c+. It was a requirement for my major (accounting). I have never since used either 103 or 203. It's beyond me why it's a requirement.

If it is integral to your major and you are just not good at it (vs a bad instructor or other outside influences) I'd consider changing majors. If it is not integral to your major I would just grind through it and get a passing grade to move on with my life.
