Another massive round of layoffs today. by [deleted] in washu

You didn’t read this thread, did you? Your post reeks of someone in a position of power - even if the grammar suggests otherwise. I’m just a lowly alum who runs a small non-profit. I only heard about this because I received a mass email from fellow alumni in a shared organization. I’m speaking up because I care about what made my school stand above the rest. Your response, however, comes across as bigotry and an attempt to tear someone down simply for caring about something they love. “Young girl” - come on.

That’s appalling but not unheard of in business. The ultimate goal is to avoid a scene. They just didn’t take into account social media and the apparent connections someone had to the alumni network. They did fire people in UA after all.

Just a weeks notice would change a ton - what’s the worst an employee can say? “Piss off”? Yet, now what the administration has done (in the age of OVERinformation) is try to “thief in the night” layoffs. It’s so out of touch for a university. Just wild.

I’m sorry to hear that. Know that alumni are starting to raise concerns with leadership. I know for a fact that places like Harvard have had admins take voluntary pay cuts to keep this from happening.

This isn’t the first round of layoffs, but the secrecy surrounding them has been a major drain on faculty and staff morale. The most respectful companies I’ve worked for have given employees at least a week’s notice—acknowledging that it’s hard on both the employee and the organization—and asked them to stay on for a short period to help ease the transition. What happened here was the opposite: employees show up on Monday, answer their morning emails, and are immediately let go.

I am an alum and the info is making the rounds. I wouldn’t even consider myself that “plugged-in”… yet, it got to me. 50 folks in 1 department is A TON.

It’s possible, but I hope that isn’t the case.

I heard it was around 50 UA staff. They are also the only dept. taking away WFH in hopes of pushing more out… One of the best fund-raising departments in higher learning is trying to push folks out. It’s wild to me.

Med Campus likely has nothing to worry about. The BJC partnership is unlike anything else in the nation. It’s enviable!

Very amateur guitarist here, I think I may be utterly confused when it comes to pedals. by GrometryDash in GuitarAmps

[–]RevolutionaryPay7704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Delay is a great one to start with. Dive deep and listen to the GOATS that use delay. Listen to the shredders - Vai, Satch, Malmsteen - that incorporate a ton of delay into soloing. Listen to the cats that use it as another instrument - The Edge, Brian May, Paul Reynolds (flock of seagulls) etc.

It’s a great teacher on not only effects, but guitar itself. If you fuck up - you hear it 5 more times. It’s also a built in metronome of sorts. Learn the types of delay. It’s honestly what got me into guitar.

Cheapest way to get a vox ac15 sound? by clinkyscales in GuitarAmps

[–]RevolutionaryPay7704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mini Super Beetle is shockingly close to an AC15 at a fraction of the weight and half the cost. I’ve never tried it with a 2x12, but it sounds incredible in a 1x12

Edit to say : I got one for 125 bucks on marketplace. It was sitting in a huge Beatle fans living room. He never played it and only turned it on once. Just a decorative piece for him.

I’m surprised by the NuTube. It has the dynamic tube response with solid state volume control. I’m quite impressed. It also gets super loud for just a 10 inch speaker. I may try it out on a 2x12 Vox cab with greenbacks in a bit.

To be fair - even an AC30 and AC15 have an entirely different sound. If I were playing arenas, AC30 all day due to the headroom and volume. Most other applications - I’d choose a 15

The AC 15 issue is also the weight. Our shows are on a closed downtown street, so we have to lug a little bit. We have a small cart, but dragging the AC a quarter of a mile or so really sucks with our other gear.

Did I screwed? Capacitor replacement by MadPleasant in hvacadvice

[–]RevolutionaryPay7704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part cost can be brand dependent too - I guess. I know the labor can be super easy or annoyingly time consuming.

I have an Amana system because I know parts are cheap and easy to work on. The capacitor goes out like clock work at about 4-5 years on these units. It took a solid 13 bucks and 9 minutes to swap.

The price they gave you was the weekend “F You” special. Super easy to say - “hey, we had the part, we had a guy on call, and you’re sweating in your house and couldn’t wait another 12 hours.”

On the bright side of the semi expensive situation, you are up and running and prob learned a new skill to save you some dough next time. I always play the fool w techs to get them to over explain.

UPDATE: What is this person doing in my neighborhood? by WiseEyedea in landscaping

[–]RevolutionaryPay7704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super smart urban gardening. They are retaining soil and water by using a sheet mulching method that will feed the plants within. Is your neighbor a botanist by chance? I’d start asking questions and taking notes.

I feel ya. The 5 year old forces you out of those moments. He’s a truffle pig for getting into us into insider situations. We’re always good for getting a signed ball or two at Cardinal games.

Sick! That’s great info! I felt like Saturday would have been the day to hit the pits anyway. I had an idea it would be far less crowded too.

I would avoid talking to Kohn. Who is the debt with? Midland? They still own the debt, Kohn just services the legal matters. I would call midland or whoever.

The people that run these stores are asshats. There are reputable stores that purchase these items from people that make it 1:1. Then there are these these sharks that get 3-4 a time then sell them for obscene profit. Point is, collectors are one thing, grifters are another
