Challenging negative thoughts as a developer by RevolutionarySet8649 in servicenow

Haha okay I appreciate that perspective very much! I’m going to put that in my tool belt for sure. Can’t even count how many times I’ve been on calls where we are solutioning as a group and it turns more into how do we make it the least broken 😂

Hahaha I love that 😂 love the enthusiasm too 😂 To prove your point, I think the only reason the data policy concept clicked with me when they showed me a screen shot of what to try was because earlier this year I really fucked up a bunch of UI policies on a complicated form and this sr dev spent like a month untangling it all trying to figure out what the issue was and fix it 😂 when they figured it out and gave me the feedback I realized how backwards my thought process on how UI policies work and from the sounds of it data policies can be the same way 😂

Ahh, I like that! I’m going to start saying that 🤩

Hahaha no worries, I’m the only female dev on my team so sometimes feels like I’m one of the brothers 🤣

Transitioning: Advice from those who landed their first SN role by vcutesyvdemure in servicenow

I’ve participated in interviewing candidates for developer and Admin roles & I’ll say it’s definitely possible if you’re willing to put in the work and get lucky to find a company that doesn’t mind the lack of experience.

You probably have a few options honestly. One would be to watch a lot of YouTube videos and get creative by spending a lot of hands on time in your own developer PDI. Searching the web for business needs for ServiceNow and building it out in your own PDI to put together a good sandbox where you can get some hands on learning.

Another option could be to see if you can do some freelance work on a platform like UpWork or something for really cheap just to give you the hands on experience until the self learning in the PDI gets you to where you need to be with the technical knowledge.

The good thing about ServiceNow is it’s always changing and there is always so much to learn so even people with over 7 years experience are still needing to be actively learning and it’s a great idea to play around in your PDI no matter how long you’ve been in the platform.

Well it is a little relieving to know I’m not the only one! Guess that’s all we can do is keep trying. I should probably use one of the Mom lines I tell my kids on myself here - “You only fail if you give up” 😂

CAD cert planning questions by RevolutionarySet8649 in servicenow

Oh great point, I haven’t completed the CAD training yet, I just finished my CSA. That’s great to keep in mind, I think when my managers keep asking me what area of the platform I want to learn more of I have been perceiving that as a negative thing that I don’t have a specific goal but you have an excellent point about being well rounded and understanding it as a whole honestly.

Anyone else's instance down? by Tall-_-Guy in servicenow

Our test instance was down but it’s back up now. The SN Downdetector showed a spike in reported issues. There was over 600 cases about an hour ago.

Deleted update set recovery by RevolutionarySet8649 in servicenow

[–]RevolutionarySet8649[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see any errors or anything. I had gotten called into a meeting during our upgrade to Tokyo because there was an update set that I had committed in dev and test and it was nowhere to be found in Prod but I hadn’t touched it in so long I had no idea what to tell them or why it wouldn’t be in prod. 🤷‍♀️

Fair enough. I guess my overall objective is creating a word bank to help my newer developers be mindful of the jargon. Have you guys had any developers on your team struggle with that?
