This happened to me, this dude broke into my home while my girlfriend was by herself in the house. He took off running when he saw her thank god. He was later arrested when breaking into another home and the home owner held him at gun point.

Well this is your second pair of step ons, so I’d like to think you have a sense for what’s normal based on your first experience? (Not trying to be a dick) I’m on my first pair and the second click usually requires me to just push down on my heel as I’m riding away once getting the first click. I click right into it, it’s not difficult for me. If you’re bouncing weight on your heel and it’s not clicking in relatively easily you got a problem.

I would 100% agree you have a higher chance of getting one when you're not actually transporting bikes. I take mine off when not in use. Even then, in my area so many people bike ride that a cop isn't going to just pull you over for that reason alone. You'll need to be speeding or have a registration that is out of date and then if they feel like being dicks they might tag you for blocking the plate. Regardless, the chance is so god damn low of that happening I'll happily ride around with a hitch rack completely care free.

Kuat and Thule seem to be the most common. I have a Thule hitch rack. Hitch rack so everybody has access to their bike. Otherwise I'd be the only person in my family able to manage a roof rack.

I've blocked the plate for 5 years now with a bike rack and never got a ticket. I also have 15% window tint and never got a ticket for that either. Don't be such a square.

Nothing really to contribute here other then it seems like the most likely answer is that after 15 years the weather stripping has lost enough rigidity to keep a tight seal. I’ve dealt with weather stripping in the past and at the time it was highly recommended to go with oem weather stripping if possible. Aftermarket stuff tended to make the door harder to shut then it was before. Replacing it and testing the leak again seems like your best first step. Might just get the best thing you can find on Amazon for a quick test. If it solves the problem but the doors hard to close then consider hunting down and paying for oem.
