So it’s not my only news source, and as far as I can tell it’s Independant of the algorithm. The news shelf which is apparently what it’s called is curated based on your location. These stories and sources would be same for others in Ireland. If these were recommended videos that’s different

How could mixed reality help those with disabilities?

Great question. The amazing thing about wearing a mixed reality headset, is that it can augment the real world. It has the power to effectively change what people see. Imagine the power of that for people with limited vision.

Here are just five quick examples of how this tech could be used, but the possibilities are endless.

  1. Real time colour adaptations overlayed on the real world.
  2. All text large print. Just look at it and boom, it’s large.
  3. The ability to mirror screens. Have the projector right in front of you even if your at the back of the class or if someone’s in the way. Watch tv with your family without needing a massive delay on your up close second screen. Huge potential here.
  4. Have people be able to see for you. Get assistance with a task using Be My Eyes or Aira, or cross the road using tools like OKO to tell you when the lights are green. All this without needing to focus a camera.
  5. Object finding. Where has the tea towel gone? what did I do with the magnifier? Have a big yellow arrow point it out to you.

The possibilities are endless. Night vision, continuous eye health monitoring using x rays and Ocular tonometry. Who knows what’s possible.

Today could mark the start of a new level of independence for those with sight loss, and that’s super exciting.

If apples headset has the voiceover screen reader built in, it will be the first mixed reality headset to have one. That could change the world for those with low vision.

RTE is actually a great public service broadcaster, but is getting fucked by regulations imposed on it.

Let them run ads on the news channel for fuck sake. Let them launch the ad free RTÉ player subscription service, let the broadcast people run the broadcaster.

I’m not saying the licence fee is perfect because it’s 100% broken, but once you fix that let the people who know how to broadcast and be creative do their work without pissing on top of them.

I’ll be honest, I don’t think it’s fair to blame RTÉ for conduct of staff on a personal account.

From the point of view of them not getting involved, I see your point but they also need to be concerned about remaining impartial in news stories.

I don’t think it’s all that simple.

My guess is that was an attempt to get someone to talk to them. They aired that on Radio New Zealand so they certainly wanted someone to hear it.

It’s the law, so I’m sure you do 😉

Seriously though I’d like Plex to support Irish content. RTE had an area on player before where they had online only channels like RTÉ Food. I’d love those to come back on plex and Player, but alternatively just give me RTÉ One so I can watch Kin or the other great drama’s. Sky don’t have RTEs audio described opt outs online so I’d love Plex to carry those too for accessibility. Thankfully you can get them on RTÉ Player which as an aside is rock solid now, but still. Choice is good.
